*another* recommendation thread =/

Yeah I ended up ordering them anyways, got all of it from monoprice. I'd just like to know ultimately which is better I guess. Won't be getting everything until at least wednesday.

Update:

so my dumb ass just assumed that my mobo had an optical out... it doesn't. can my video card put a digital signal out through hdmi as it's also putting the video signal out through DVI? or should I buy a cheap sound card that has optical out on it?

if the second option, is there any degradation in sound quality with the signal passing through so many obstacles? and, does it matter what quality/price card I get, if the card isn't doing any processing of the files before putting them out? i need a bit of clarification on that part... if possible.

many thanks in advance ^_^

I would just use the e9 as your USB DAC, hook up the receiver through RCA, and call it a day. Ya, you could get an audio card that has optical out like the Asus Xonar DG but you don't have to.

if you have the E9 /E7 combo you have both right?? then I concur with the previous poster just run rca to the receiver ... well actually you could do so just with the e9 really. 3.5mm to e9 rca to receiver

or of course a Xonar DG is like $20 (i have one it is a pretty nice card for teh money) it has optical.

hmm.. well this is to some extent certainly news to me..but apparently you can cludge things up to get hdmi audio to the reviver without having it actually hooked up to one of your displays. (as I'm reading this anyways.)

thanks for the replies guys.

so, if i were to get a card with optical out, does the card do anything to the digital signal before sending it out? also, how much better/worse is using the e7's dac than the receivers? and, quality of signal wise, how bad is it hurting the signal to pass it through an extra set of wires before it gets to the receiver?

card won't do anything to the signal with optical. The receiver will do the decoding, generally the DAC in the receiver is likely to be better unless you have a crap receiver or amazing card.
