Hey guys, been a lurker for awhile read some interesting things and finally decided to take the plunge and ask for advice on this build I want to do in the next month.

Intel e6400 @ 2.13GHz
Asus P5B - E
Corsair DDR2 6400 2gb (2x1gb)
Antec TruePower 650watt
WD 150gb Raptor
BFG 7950GT
Antec P180

Im definatly set on going Intel, but should I spend the extra cash and get the 6600? I want to try and overclock to 2.8-3.2Ghz. I want to build a 2-3 year system, meaning my next build/major upgrade won't be til then (my current rig has lasted me for about 4 years now with only a video card upgrade.) I realize DX10 is coming out soon, so I wanted a good video card to last a while and so I can turn some eye candy on in games, CSS BF2 etc. I have no plans what so ever to go SLI. Is there cheaper/better ram than what I have picked? And is the P180 really hard to work in? I might decide to go water cooling later on this year, and I have read that video cards won't fit?

I second the motion for getting a 8800GTS card, it's around $160 more than the 7950GT on Newegg, but if you have the funds to consider an E6600 instead, then they are better spent on the graphicscard.

Also you should get some good aftermarket cooling for the CPU if you want around 3 GHz from the E6400, the stock cooler will probably do but it defeats the point of you case of choice.

Speaking of the case you might want a modular PSU to go with that, makes cable management in the P180 much easier. Something like this maybe (Slightly cheaper than the Antec unit you picked out): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817139001

I know it's "only" 520 Watts but it is plenty (also high quality and quiet).

So the 8800 is DX10 compliant? If thats the case I might shell out for that card. Price really isn't an issue as most of this will go on a credit card and I'll pay if off eventually, but I wanted things to stay somewhat close to cheap. Would the 520watt psu be able to handle the 8800? And will the card fit in the P180? Maybe its the 900 I'm thinking of where cards are too big or too long. As for the CPU cooler, I am planning on purchasing a Zalman down the road. It's not that big of a cost right now, epically since I can spend it on something more useful like a better processor or better video card.

The 520W Corsair will handle the 8800GTS (Yes, it's DirectX10 compliant) easily, also the GTS is not any longer than a standard ATX motherboard is wide, so no worries there, even if you find that you want more clearing in the P180 you can always remove the upper HD drawer, the you can use the full length of the case. :)

If you DO worry about having enough power Corsair makes a 620W unit too, it's a tad more expensive though...
