I need some suggestions for a new PSU since I have been out of the loop for a long time.

I did the online power calculator thing and it suggests I need a 478W+ PSU.. but I am concerned that will not be enough.

Right now I am running a 450W PSU with 3 SATA drives, DVD-RW, Opteron 165, AGP 6800.

I recent bought 2 more 500gb drives and whenever I plug them into the hard drive change I will get a blue screen after a few hours of use. Without them, it's fine indefinitely, so I'm pretty sure its because of the drives.

Any suggestions as to what I need to power the full set of drives? I am looking at the 520HX and 620HX since everyone seems to like them, but they're pricey for a PSU.

you can get 520hx for about $80 AR and 620HX for $120AR. The 520 would be enough for your current rig but if you plan on adding more drives etc you might want to go with the 620. I have the 620 powering my file server with 16 drives and it works without a hitch, doesn't even get hot.

what kinda 450 watt are you using right now? honestly i think that setup you have shouldnt be drawing too much power.

This is what I thought, but given the evidence, I think it must be drawing too much power. If the system were going down right away it'd be obvious, but it seems to happen sometime afterwards.. I guess it loosely coincides with disk activity.

I'll check on the make when I get home but I am pretty sure it's a smart power 2.0 450W supply.
