Sorry to start another thread guys but I really want to get this solved . Last night I noticed some general weirdness but that seemed to resolve itself. However, now I cannot get my CPU work unit.....

My GPU unit is progressing OK, but my CPU unit is stuck at 0, even though my CPU utilization is at 100% so I know it's folding.....something. I've read stuff about clearing the queue but I do not see an smp folder to clear it......

Again, sorry for my total n00bishness. Havent figured this all out yet.

AMD GPUs typically require a full CPU core/thread to keep them fed and SMP is very prone to slowdown when there is a load imbalance on any of the threads. Try setting your SMP to one less than the current number and see if that helps.

lol AMD gpu has nothing to do with the problem he's having. since i refuse to use the v7 client i can't really help with where the files that need to be deleted are at but i also can't let the above comment go without a response.

So you don't know how to fix the problem, understand it or are willing to even try it, but you want to rubbish a valid potential solution that has neither been confirmed or denied by the OP? If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

My guess here is rhavern is right, it appears you are running a quad try setting the smp client to -smp 3 and see if that speeds up the smp folding. Or shut down the GPU folding and see what happens.

I've had the same problem on my system with a 6970. SMP would just hang at 0% while the GPU would use a full CPU core. Turns out I get more PPD running just the SMP units than I do trying to run both so I never really tried getting it to work.

Fascinating.

OK, thanks guys. I do notice 25% cpu utilization while running the GPU folding. I'll try the -3 setting and if not it looks like I might just be folding on one component. Thanks guys!

I would pick the CPU over the GPU in your case. i don't know what kind of ppd you are seeing with your 5850, but I can't imagine it being higher than an I5 @3.7.

My 5870 running the v7, is outpreforming my I5-750 at 3.6GHZ no problem. I can't imagine the 5850 and his cpu at 3.7 makes that much of a difference. The best I got CPU alone was 8.5K PPD, and the GPU, was almost 10K./. running both I hit 14K. added a second video card that I had laying around (6520, or 6530). now over 15K. Just saying I have a rig just like his, and the video card seems to do better then the CPU. YMMV, but thats what I have noticed in 8 straight days folding.
