So if I got this all right, the new P4 are 64bit enabled? So if one day I decide to buy one of those processors, it would work with the Windows 64Bit Edition? Also would I need a new mobo to support them? Or would my P4 Prescott mobo work fine with them?

yes it will work with windows 64bit edition. also lemme see a link to your mobo.

Yeah about that..... its some Asus mobo that came with my HP Computer(I know, its prebuilt, long story of explaining why I brought a prebuilt computer, and not building) HP a630n for the model number.

All I can say that its has the 915G chipset, 4 PC3200 memory slots(no ddr 2), 1 PCI Express X16 slot, no X1 slots :( , and of course the LGA 775 socket. I know this mobo is basically crap, but it gets the job done, and thats all I care about.

Go 6xx series P4 woot!!! can not wait to get one myself...RIGHT!!! most likly not... That is going to be tight though to run 64bit windows on a P4... got a ? what video card you going to get in that killer nice machine?

As of now I got an Sapphire X600 256Mb Pro. Im still deciding on whether to get an X800Xl or get a 6800 GT or even an 6800 Ultra.

The socket is correct, however Intel's website doesn't list the i915x chipsets as being EM64T compatible. The 925x and 925XE are listed as being compatible. So I'd venture to say your out of luck on that HP.

You need to get a good Abit board with the 925XE chipset on it and through out that other thing to the highest bidder... :D

HP's newest Pavilion line really isn't bad as prebuilds go, what with the ASUS mainboards and well-chosen parts. But I think your desired upgrades may be write checks that system's power supply can't cash.

Hot Hardware's review of the 6xx series lists the 915 chipset as being EM64T aware. If you look closely at that table (on Intel's site) you'll see that it's entirely messed up. The 6xx series is listed in the same column as the 865 chipset.

My buddy has the 640 (I believe) sitting in a new ASUS board and is using RC2 of WXP 64-bit edition. It's pretty sweet!

EDIT: It's the 650 (3.4 GHz) chip.

I found that out today. Intel's site hadn't listed it as being supported, but I wouldn't have thought that it wouldn't be compatible as the chipsets are similar.

Is it just me or does the i925x seem useless? Especially since it's still produced along side the i925XE.

The XE offers the ECC support and the 1066FSB, where the i925X just has ECC support. So really it doesn't offer anything over the i915P that anyone would really need or want.

The i925X isn't really any cheaper than the i925XE. So again I think it's useless.

The 915 series is *not* compatible with the 6xx series, according to Intel. The 925 series and forthcoming *945 series* (which will replace the 915 series) *are* compatible with the 6xx.

The 925XE was supposed to *replace* the 925X (however, there are still a large number of 925X-based boards around); however, the XE was late shipping to motherboard makers; for example, ASUS still hasn't come out with an XE mobo yet (also, PCIe hasn't really gotten off the ground except with companies like Dell and Gateway/eMachines).

Asus' 925XE mobo has been out for months, the P5AD2-E. Abit has also had theirs out for the same amount of time, the AA8XE.

Incorrect. The 915 series chipsets are compatible with the new 600 series chips. Asus and other mobo makers released BIOS updates for all their 915 based motherboards to support the new chips.

Ok thanks, Im not looking into getting a new one as of now. My 2.8 is fine how it is. I was just wondering for the future. Im more interested in getting more ram and a video card as of now, and also a 19in monitor(flat panel) :) . My mobo isnt that bad, its just kinda weird since it specially designed for HP computers. Like it doesnt have an X1 slot but has an X16 slot. And some random other things. At least it is stable.
