    Hi guys.

Tried for days overclocking to 5ghz but seems my chip just does not like overclocking at all..anything even a bit over 4.7ghz all core will get my temps to 83-90c.

Few strange things witch makes me confused and maybe someone here can explain.

So did run cine bench with stock MCE enabled /stock MCE disabled /Clocked at 4.9ghz MCE disabled,

Strange thing that in cine bench I get maybe 90 score difference all stock MCE disabled got me 2035 score where 4.9ghz gets me 2105 .But stock my temps never goes over 70c and at 4.9ghz it goes around 92C under real bench.
Is it even worth the hassle to overclock it?

    Second strange thing.
I did set manual voltage for 4.9ghz @1.36v and all I get was BSOD .Then I did experiment I set core at 4.9Ghz and left voltage on auto and HWmonitor and CPU-Z reads only around 1.3v and was stable not counting 92C temps under real bench 15 min stress test.

All this overclocking and results does not make any logical sense for me.

Is there something I am missing in all this ?

Not sure what your case and cooling solutions are but those temps are high indeed for that voltage unless you are doing avx stress testing. Odd that you cannot get it stable and 1.36 at 4.9 but then again ocing is never guaranteed of course.

Check your other settings and make sure you're not hitting limit and end up trying to push more voltage than it actually needs.

I am using Kraken x62 at performance mode.
I did try to fallow up official Gigabyte 5ghz overclock guide but noticed that LLC at turbo makes my CPU temp high rocket in 1st 10 sec on stress test.
Using Aida64 and realbench as main stress test tools.

Problem solved my thermal paste was not equally spreaded trough CPU as well replaced with arctic silver 5 now running 4.9ghz 1.33v stable under 30min real bench max temp spiked to 80C but durning the run mostly was in 76C mark.

Thanks for help again guys.Loving this forum so far.

And I am back for one last question hopefully as I did not want to start another threat.
So did Real Bench for a hour and those are the best results I could achieve.Once I try to go to to 5ghz its demand for voltage doubles so does the temps. And I have spent way too much time I planed to get as far as I have now.

Is these results good enough for long term use and wont 83c temp spikes shorten my CPU life?i am using LCC @ medium .
Sounding a bit paranoid but overclocking this is way more complicated than it was with i7 6700k and the temps on i7 6700k never reached over 70c.
in Short searching for some validation.

That is a very nice overclock to be honest, and the heat is not an issue. 1.225v for 4.9 is good. Some people, like me, need 1.37v to attempt or stabilize 5.0g. Which is simply out of the thermal envelope of many processors.

I need 1.33v to hit 4.9g avx stable. Temperatures hit 96 in real bench. I simply cannot hit 5.0g stable.

Have another 9900k on the way, and will sell this chip off at a discount, because I do love tinkering, and feel the itch to tinker more.

Took me ages to get this one stable at 4.9ghz I am in same situation as you then I just need to satisfy the itch to tinker some more I could get 5ghz at 1.3v I believe but temps would reach 90-93c ad that way out of my liking zone. But then again in Cinebench I dont see any worthy improvement from 4.9ghz to 5ghz. Wish I could get another chip to try but fried my budget on this one for some time now.Cant even afford normal PC case fans anymore :D

Your temps are fine. Real Bench has some AVX so it will create higher spikes than you will see on regular gaming and apps unless you use apps that use AVX.
Mine I am at around 1.28v for 5Ghz and it seems that it will require quite a bit more for 5.1 so is not worth the extra stress on the CPU. My temps are low (well low for this CPU that is lol) so I like to keep it like this. I mean, even at stock (with the MCE) this CPU can handle anything anyways :D

4.9ghz @ 1.33v seems a bit too much voltage, no?

By now managed to set in on stable 4.9ghz at 1.27v anything lower than that fails. And If i try to get 5ghz on all cores I can get it stable only at 1.39v and temps goes over the roof

    Everything less isn't avx stable.

If I want to make it a semi stable non-avx overclock like most others, yes, and i can set an avx offset and back off to 1.29v

Ended up with the ek velocity full nickel. Wanted the kryos next, but there was an issue of amazon not shipping it.

I delidded with liquid metal from die to ihs and ihs to block.

Just put my new cpu in.

Can hit 5.1 at 1.38v avx stable, but scorching hot.

Turned down to 5.0, and am at 1.3v right now, but need a lot more testing.

Both 9900ks max out at 4000mhz on my 4133 l ram, so i dropped down the timings to 16-16-16-36 @1.5v.

Still have to dial in both ocs and test more, but very happy i went with a replacement.

Now to clean up the other 9900k and give someone a nice discount for a 4.9ghz chip.

Gotta go. Off to the parents in the am for christmas.

I might be interested in that 9900k. Let me when you decide to let it go.

Hi mate. Just got back from Christmas at the parents, and saw how slow their old computers are. Needless to say, I am building them a new computer with the 9900k, and giving them my old 3930k system which still runs fine.

Sorry, gotta take care of the parents!
