Just like the title says.


I'm about 20Mhz shy of a 1Ghz overclock on Air with my 2.8c here. I'd like to squeeze out that extra 20Mhz through some tweaking if possible.

I've messed with ram timings. They aren't the problem. I can boot at 270fsb 1:1 2.5-4-4-7 and it's nice and stable. However, when I go above 270fsb, it seems the whole system craps out...won't even load completely into windows. I get the XP boot screen, a mouse cursor, then reboot.

I've tried running ram at 5:4...same result.
Tried ram @ CAS 3...same result.
Tried upping NB/AGP voltage to 1.7v - same result (except a hotter nb so I dropped it back to 1.6v)
tried upping cpu voltage -same result. right now I can hit 3.78Ghz, 270fsb @ 1.67v. I've tried 1.75v and I still can't get into windows.
PCI/AGP is locked at 66/33.
Temps are ok. 40c Idle, 56c load. System temp is 30c.

So right now I'm running
270fsb @ 1.67v
Ram 1:1 2.5-4-4-7 @ 3.2v
AGP/PCI locked at 66/33
GAT = Auto
N/B strap = By CPU (800)
PAT = disabled

I DON'T want to go w/water cooling ATM. However, a better air cooler would be more feasable at this point (well, within the next month or so).
Hardware is in sig.

lower the ambient
get a cleaner cooler airstream for the HSF
increase the velocity and static pressure

running a duct mod?

a heat sink (by itself) is a high resistance environment so in series makes sense
if your doing a duct mod

One thing I might do is see if heat is a problem. Best way to do this? Find a cold room, set up there, then aim a room fan (one of the 2 foot high ones) at it on medium speed. With all that extra air it will help you temps on everything so you'll know if that's the issue.
