Hi all,
we're about to upgrade our tired old DMS (Dealer management System) server. It primarily runs a D3 database with up to 65 concurrent user sessions. The session limit may increase in the next few years to maybe 100, and It's taking on a few new tasks such as PHP and XML web service, and a few little nitty gritties.
Our DMS provider will only support one "brand" and one distro, but there's a few things we can change.
They have come up with a Fujitsu TX200 with the following:
- single Xeon 2.66Ghz.
- 1024 ECC 2100 DDR.
- Gig Lan
- U320 2 channel SCSI 48mb buffer
- 2 x 36Gb Drives (no details)
- DVD read
- Redundant PSU
- 20 / 40 GB tanburg SLR tape. (no details)
- 4 hour response time
- RedHat enteprise basic
Now. our current system is a tired old 550mhz PIII with 512 Mb RAM, dual channel SCSI etc and seems to kick along ok, but it has its slow points, so the above should be a vast improvement, however there's a few things we can change here, right??
1. bump up the RAM??
2. RAID 5 perhaps??
3. Tape is fine (i think). I've been looking into AIT for our other boxes though.
4. Don't think we need a burner of any sort.
any other ideas??
