Another help me with a build....

I've been out of the computer scene for awhile and have finally gotten sick of my rig. (sig)
I've been reading a lot on all the new hardware out and basically understand whats going on now. However, I cant make up my mind on quite a few things. I'm planning on going the AMD64 route. I have a budget of around $1000.00 US (depending on what I get)which will have to include:

- Case
- PSU
- RAM
- Mobo
- CPU
- HDD
- Maybe Video card

I have quite a few questions..
- How much of a performance gain is the 3200+ vs. the 3500+ for the price difference?
- How well do they overclock in terms of each other?

- As for the Mobo, this really has to do with my Video card... I'm not sure If i should get an AGP based mobo and keep my video card for the time being or go with PCI-E and move to a pci based video card. Is it worthwhile to go PCI route?

- Ram, completely clueless here, I'm guessing I should be getting 2X 512mb, give me some suggestions.

- HDD, at least 100gb 7200rpm ... dont know..

- Case and PSU i can work out later.

Given this bit of info can you put a PC together for me, again the major decision im trying to make is having to do with the mobo/video card dilemma.

any input would help.

AMD64 3000+ or 3200+ Winchester price
Dont be cheap with your RAM ( Your ram will outlst your CPU and your CPU is dependant on your RAM for OCin )
Get a cheap case if your budget is an issue and get a nice PSU
WD 74 Raptor for your OS and a 200gig Seagate for storage
With the left over money blow it on the best video card you can buy

oh yea dont forget a dvd burner or something

Reason why your not getting a 3500+ is because its a waste of money. This board and winchester cores are made to overclock, tahts why i say dont be cheap with your ram, when you get new processors you'll be able to use the same ram to OC your new chip as well. All the 3000+ and 3200+ overclock to 3500+ speeds stable if not higher.

Another reason is because the "venice core" will be released "sometime in the first half of 2005". These are supposedly the bad mamajammaz. SO this is what I suggest and what I am doing, get the lower end chip and save some money, overclock it. THen when the venice comes out you'll have more money to get one of them

i already have a dvd burner so thats not an issue. As for the ram what kind would you recommend?

Get some corsair xms series ram. Get at least a Gb of it too. Then get a coolermaster or a lian li case (aluminum type). Overall I agree with that other guys choices there.

If you want a new case, its up to you to decide how much you want to spend on it.
For a graphics card, get the best one you can. The 6600GT, the 6800, and the 6800GT come out on top in their classes, but for top performance the X850XTPE beats all.
