another gtx280 review

The only useful benchmark there is world in conflict which clearly shows the GTX280 dominating. Not sure whether the crysis benches can be trusted given that they noted abnormal performance. Again, these types of tests are pretty useless unless they provide average fps

that is really odd that in the game that counts it is the slowest one. I am still going to stick to
my hopes that it has to do with drivers or whatnot :D

There is some bottleneck in Crysis other than the GPU, as shown by the graphs. Everything is higher with the benchmarks with the gtx 280 but Crysis. I don't think the code is very efficient, it seems to be a poor benchmarking tool.

Looks like Crysis has stumped us again...

Don't let the canned benchmarks fool you guys. Brent has written one of the best articles he has ever done on the 200 series. Monday morning.....

Don't suppose you could "accidentally" let the Radeon results slip into the article?

Either way, I'll dutifully await your article.

Let's think about it - in world of conflict, dx10 - (corrected)
% gain@1920x1200 = (new fps - original fps) / original fps = (59 - 44) / 44 = 34%
% gain@1680x1050 = 42%
% gain@2560x1600 = 52%
These are DUAL gpu's we are comparing the GTX 280 to.
Pretty Killer..

Well that depends on how well the GX2 scales (not to mention G92 suffering at high resolutions). How much of an improvement is it over the 8800Ultra? Cause while I don't have AA on, I can play 2560 x 1600 world in conflict quite comfortably with all other settings maxed (average over 30 FPS)

Anyways, I'm awaiting the reviews to come out

Look, to be honest, the GT200 review on Monday won't answer all my questions. It will answer a few - namely, if deciding between a single 8800 GTS 512 and a single GTX 280, whether the sharp price delta is sufficiently supported by a performance delta.

I don't think anyone at this point is expecting that GT200 will be anything but the fastest single-GPU solution availible. We get it nV. It's the fastest GPU. Congrats! You've earned it, even if you did have to use more than 200W of power and a die the size of a small city ot accomplish it.

What will bring the rest of the picture into focus is the review of the new Radeons coming a week or so after.

Sounds like you should be looking at the 260 and the amd's then. Price to performance, these will be better.

My prediction (I could be wrong but WTH) is that we will finally discover that Crysis is a turd at high res and no improvement of video hardware is going to change that. Not Nvidia and not ATI. Crysis will become old news and a useless benchmark tool within two weeks.

When there are other titles like WIC getting speed improvements well over 50% then there is obviously something else going on.

Definitely, can't wait for the GTX [H] review and the their ATI review as well.

what about the gtx 260? how does that fair in a compairison? its half the price.. i hope not half the performance as well

pretty sure the 260 isn't half the price of the 280, numbers i'm hearing/reading are $449 & $599/$649, which is ~$150-200 difference (~33% to 44% increase)

The GTX 280 is for sale on eBay now, and not a ridicuolus prices either. XFX and eVGA brands or going for $660, just $10 over MSRP.

Let's think about it - in world of conflict, dx10 -
70% gain over gx2 for 1680x1050,
75% gain @ 1920x1200
66% gain for 2560 x 1600 res.
These are DUAL gpu's we are comparing the GTX 280 to.
Pretty Killer..

I didn't see these numbers.....

link is not working for me.
I hope this is true: 75% gain @ 1920x1200 :D

1920 x 1200 is my native res.

Eh correction.. it was late.

These early reviews just don't make a lot of sense. There must be some driver problems here, or at least I hope so. I'm going to get two 280's regaurdless becuase no matter what that'll be better than a sinlge 9800 GX2 and there's no point in going with another GX2. I am SO tempted to buy the XFX off eBay and have it my hand Tuesday. But I'll wait, hopefully ZZF or the Egg will start selling them tomorrow.

You can triple-SLI GTX280 but You can't Triple-SLI 9800GX2. GTX280 will still be the top of line.

HEY HEY HEY GUYS STFU for a second

that bench is useless its on medium settings with no aa no af, its not on high settings. when you turn the settings down with any game you tighten the gap between the cards and the gx2 is going to get hurt when aa and af get turned on.
