Remove dually 64 bit G5's and SATA drives for a 2200+ and an agp-less AMD??
The G5 could so play better games than that thing... especially with a windows emulator... which could probably run faster than that 2200+ can run windows...
WTF kinda crack was he smoking??
I'm gonna look his name up and email his parents![]()
I think you could run Linux a lot cheaper on standard hardware
Yeah, but he already HAD the system. Few people would spend on a mac for linux; but he threw away some serious hardware (all right gave it to his friend), and spent money on the amd proc. and motherboard.

The only problem I know of is with the Darwin overlay. Other then that I hear that even Apple has OS X on x86 hardware. I wish they would work with the Opensource community on developing it, like what they did with Safari. I fig it would give people incentive to buy a Mac if they became familiar with it on x86. Hell the requirments for Panther aren't as different as XP.Originally posted by m³ñ
You know, OS X is based on *nix. You could theoretically install OS X on a PC and recompile the kernel to optomize itself for the PC hardware.Although, I'm not that farmiliar with the actual kernel, so it might have some limitation keeping that from being easy. I do know that people have run OS X on PC hardware before.

Yeah it would be ok if he did it cleanly and had some comparable gear and there. However it is a truly ghettorific hack job that he has pulled off. Just to give away the parts, that his friend probably wont use anyway, shows how spoiled he is...

How many people are still bitching/moaning about this? Does ANYBODY actually read anything any more? There are posts from the 30th but the website has a notice as of the 27th that its all a joke.
I'll quote from the website.
Are the pictures real? Yes.
Is it my own G5 case that has been cut and hacked? Yes.
Did I give away two G5 2GHz processors (IBM PC 970)? No!
So what happened?
I got a free G5 shell from a buddy of mine and pulled a prank on a Mac loving friend. He got so upset. I wrote up a little story, my imagination and warped sense of humor kicked in.
In case you don't want to actually read the site I'll say it here.
IT WAS A EMPTY CASE HE HAD GIVEN TO HIM, SO HE DECIDED TO PULL A TRICK ON HIS FRIEND.

There have been of course rumours/speculations/whatever that Apple has OS X running on x86.. This is fairly plausible, since OS X is based on OpenStep which ran on x86. End users can't, though, you'd need x86 binaries for Aqua and the rest of the OS, and there's just no way to get them.

Apple does maintain an x86 port of OS X just to prove viability to some of it's hardware vendors. They were also keeping it around as some sort of apocalyptic 'last ditch' play if motorola enforced their patent muscle on the new PPC architechture of the G5. This was started in 2002 under the codename "project marklar". Marklar runs clean with no attachment to proprietary hardware, but will never be released to the public. Not as long as IBM and Apple stay in bed with each other anyway...
Wanna know more about marklar - don't believe me?

I think he's super arrogant. I read the site earlier, its a dual 2ghz that means $3k+ and he goes and puts an Athlon 64 in it just to piss somebody off. And I agree with you Ruffy, it does look pretty bad. If anybody has an empty G4 case just laying around, toss it my way, I think they're mighty pretty. I would put a PC in it only because it's empty. (PowerMac G4)
