I currently have an iiyama vision master pro 413 and want to upgrade to a 20"+ LCD. It will be used mainly for gaming (F.E.A.R, quake 4, COD2 etc... also i don't watch dvd's on my pc!). I saw that Dell have a 2001fp or a 2005fpw with 25% off. I was leaning towards the 2001fp, as i usually game at 1600 x 1200, until i started reading on this forum about it's washed out blacks & ghosting problems. However the 2005fpw doesn't have the same 1600x1200 resolution that i was after, but has a better contrast.

Now i'm confused about which one to purchase :confused: ? Can you give me any advice?
 
i had the 2005. gave it up for more real estate on the 2001. i didnt have any issues out of mine and my friend has had his for a while with no probs.

1600 * 1200 = 1920000
1680 * 1050 = 1764000

10.88% less real estate for those that haven't done the math, but then again it isn't a boring square box. :D

My two 2005fpw's have served me very well in the past six months.
 
well doing the math is no fun. the 2001 LOOKS bigger. psychology shows that no matter what the specifics are, what we think matters more. :p
 
I was considering the 2001 (Cant quite afford the 2005). From what it sounds like, all of you are/were happy with your 2001's.

I come from the camp where girth matters. :D

You've got your opinion, I've got mine. :)

And DaRkF0g, when I got both of my 2005's, they were each $50 cheaper than the 2001.
 
yeah. look for some coupons on fatwallet and stuff like that. i buy dell biz so i get really good deals all the time.

Oops, I got my numbers mixed up. I have been doing WAY too much LCD research for the past couple of days. Anywho, I was considering the 2005 NOT the 2001. Hows the backlight of your 2005? I have read about alot of leakage problems with them. If you game on it do you notice much streaking?
 
i noticed a lot of ghosting when i played bf2 on the 2005. got rid of the thing and didnt have anymore issues.
 
My 2005 shows no ghosting whatsoever in games or DVDs, but bleeds backlight like a bastard. I am trying to return it, but customer service here in Germany keep you in telephone queues for ever and never reply to emails, except to tell you that they've forwarded your request and please fill in a survey.
 
Well, i think i'll go for the 2001fp & 1600x1200...! I'll order it tomorrow & should hopefully arive in 1-2 days. Fingers crossed!!
 
I have had no problems with ghosting on my 2005, but I have had some issues with backlighting and some scan line problems on the left side of the screen.

It looks like a refresh issue, but I don't have a clue.

I am currently sitting in front of my replacement 2005 and the backlighting is much improved, although I still get the left side nuisance.

Its still a great monitor, Doom 3, and Farcry look great. (I haven't played FEAR yet)

Just for the deals you can get on it, I would recommend it. I got mine for about $430.
 
1680 X 1050 as compared to 1600 X 1200

If your video card can handle one it should be able to handle the other.

The big difference will be that you have a wider range of vision for games that support wide screen without distorted images.

Ghosting is ghosting. Either you notice it or you do not. Not everyone notices and assume it is not there. Some notice but it is within a reasonable level. Others notice and it drives them crazy.

To me all LCD's I've seen ghost to some degree. The 2005 is within my range of comfort (I see it only when I look for it or on a couple of select games) and I love the wide screen view.
 
Which is better the 2005 or the 2001? The 1 is more expensive but from the specs I would think that the 2005 is better. Now I know for each application a diff monitor could be better, for gaming mainly and dvd's second which would you guys reccomend? I'm a CRT guy and dont know all that much about LCD tech specs yet. - thanks

Well as much as I would like to buy them both thats not an option, nor is forgetting them and spending 1k :eek:.

I am thinking the 2005 for its higher contrast, but I was wondering why the 2001 was 200 more

its just a sale on the 2005. thats it. you should be able to find a coupon for the 2001 somewhere. but buy whatever is cheaper. either one is a good choice.
 
Well i've been thrown a curve ball! Was about to order the Dell 2001fp, when someone at work recommended the samsung sm204t. After further investigation, i decided to buy one and it should arrive on Tuesday. Went for it as, it was a similar price, had 1600x1200 resolution, but with a higher contrast ratio. Hope I made the right choice, will find out in 3 days! :)
 
Monitor arrived tuesday, and after extensively testing it (!!), can confirm NO ghosting, NO dead pixels and the colours are good, even black seems ok to me! :)

Call of Duty 2 plays AWESOME @ 1600x1200. The only downside is the 60hz refresh rate is causing me headaches after 4+ hours of gameplay.

So overall i'm very happy with my choice! :D
