Can someone help me pick out a nice digi cam for about $200 - $250 max?

I am pretty annoyed with largy bulky cameras so if anyone knows a good make and model for that price and decent size, please let me know. I don't need to zoom in on microsopic hairs on people face but something for the all around user.

I assume the more MP for my dollar the better so ...

Thanks for any info.

Canon PowerShot SD200 - Can be had for under 250.

Pros

* Very good photo quality (though see issues below)
* Ultra-thin, stylish metal body
* Robust performance
* Excellent continuous shooting mode (with the right memory card)
* First-rate movie mode (finally!)
* Big LCD for a small camera
* AF-assist lamp
* Optional underwater case
* Nice software bundle

Cons

* Softness around edges and corners of photos; above average purple fringing, as well
* Redeye
* Some vignetting, especially in flash shots
* Ultra-cheap plastic door over memory card / battery compartment
* LCD doesn't "gain up" very much in low light
* Can't swap memory cards while camera is on a tripod
* More manual controls would be nice

I went to BestBuy to look at the SD200 -vs- SD500.

I am a camera amatuer by all means and I noticed the 200 has a very nice big LCD for a lower end model. The SD500 LCD was small and crammed in the corner.
I don't like the fact the SD200 does not take compact flash cards :(
I can get the SD500 for $320 shipped...

What do you think?

Also, can I use this on both models?

Sandisk Flash card.

You can only use that Compact Flash card on the PowerShot S500.

The SD200 uses a Secure Digital (SD) card. The SD cards are physically smaller than Compact Flash cards, and are also cost a little bit more (~$9 more for SanDisk 512MB on NewEgg)

S500 - Compact Flash only
SD200 - Secure Digital only
