ANOTHER BF2 Patch UPDATE from EA

Thanks for the update.

"Commander scoring - No more TKs from Artillery
Vehicle tweaks - No more accidental kills from bumping a friend with your tank (try to avoid hitting him at speed though) and no more struggling uphill in an APC. Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions
Auto Team Balance tweaks - Commanders and Squad Leaders now immune to team switch
Anti-Air Missiles - These are now much more effective against fast-movers"

!!!

Cool. Wonder how much that rumor stuff ends up in there too. Like passengers have to hop out to speed up a capture. That translated thingee had a lot of stuff, and some of it was confirmed here. Like the names of your teammates in the vehicles would be one heck of a guess.

Booooooo, Wake Island blows!!!. Invasion of the Phillipians or Battle of Britain was much better.

more unrealistic...i mean its cool, but a commander needs to be aware of where his troops are and not bomb them....of course this is war, and there will be casualties, and thats just war

Godsend for me, especially when you got a dumbfuck of a commander Tking half your damn team. This is a game and I only want it to be so realistic vs fun. If I want realism, i'll go join the marines.

Ummm... I think this means that commanders who TK you with arty aren't punished for it. So there's less incentive for them not to bomb you back to the Stone Age. :(

Have you ever been succesfull in kicking a commander? Not one game for me.

Trust me, commanders can get kicked out. There was a smacktard that had me kicked twice just so he could get the 2x bonus! He kicked me once and did not take the commander role, so I took it back, then literally 1 minute before we won the map he had me kicked again......and stole the commander spot. Some people really do not deserve to play commander and I can tell you that I am not one of those people, I am a good commander!

It takes a lot of votes to kick anyone off. One man alone cannot do it. You must have pissed off a lot of other players.

eh, the game is just buggy, i can't believe they released it, and even thisnew patch doesn't look like it fixes all the problems, just the annoyences. i bet 1.03 will still be FILLED with big problems, but no matter what people will complain.

Do you understand how commander scoring works? You don't get points for kills, captures, revives, anything. The x2 bonus is x2 your command score. Your command score is the average team score (actually it's a hair different, but that's the easiest way to state it).

Since you can't get points from kills, why should you get negatives for TKs?

That's the idea behind the change. Well, that plus the fact you can ALWAYS run away from arty if you choose (though that may put you in the enemy's line of fire).

Such as?

You haven't seen the entire changelog, this is a condensed list, so I gotta wonder WTF your talking about?

Also, what's your in-game nick?

Exactly, the game announces that you have initiated Arty. The map shows where the arty will be. Why should I be punished if a team member chooses to ignore those warnings? He deserves to die in my opinion.

...except for the fact that he may be holding a position just fine. If there are friendlies in an area, you shouldn't be laying down uncalled for artillery. Train your squad leaders to call for it, they have a better feel for the ground situation than you do.

Bower's talkin' about the nutjobs and run into arty and ignore the warnings. I should hope a good commander won't drop arty on a squad defending a flag. But hope only gets you so far... rofl

That happens a LOT less than TKs from the commander due to idiots that think the arty symbol means free candy.

Also, since the commander can't directly increase his score why should anything he do decrease it?

This is a good change with a little bit of potential downside. The worse they can really do is dust you off of a flag for about 20 seconds. You can always mutiny a moronic commander.

Agreed. I think all in all it's an improvement.

Nice though for a clan, but I can't get squad leaders to drop supplies in pubs. I don't have any hope arty, and no way in hell I'm giving those nutbags the ability to give me TKs. ;)

Maybe after the patch I'll start giving my squad leaders the ability to ignore arty just like they do with supplies. :p

I cant believe there are actually people that think the no tks for arty is a GOOD thing. Stupidest idea ive seen from DICE in quite some time. I know it sucks to have guys run into your arty, but not nearly as bad as almost having a flag taken and the idiot commander calling arty on your head. Now you have the choice, stay and take the flag, or run from the arty and probably lose the flag. All because at least right now you can pucish the idiot after youve secured the flag. Fact is as commander you should NEVER be putting down arty where there are friendlies. Theres absolutly no reason for it.

The command doesn't make points from arty kills. He DOES make points when the average team score goes up, like when someone takes a flag. So why would he dust you off of the point unless he's a moron? No rule change will prevent morons...

Heck you could argue that the only think arty does is make the game end quicker (reduces enemy's tickets). This thought made me re-think the idea of "wasting" an arty on a lone sniper or small group. Well, you know what? If I'm in the lead 100-80 tickets, and that lone sniper/small group is in giving my team hell, sending an arty their way may be worth it. Sending the arty on a glob of E troops is only going to make the round end quicker, and give the commander LESS chace for his team to raise the average team score, thus giving him less points.

I guess I have to stand corrected then. I still was a good commander regardless of the kicks. At least 5 of the 12 people on my team had 100+ points and I didnt kill a single person with arty, so maybe he's a moron who though the way I did about commander points? I'm still bitter though....=P

I think you do, they just go to your global score. It would be nice for EA to give us an "offical" guide and not some !!!!!!'s leet forum posts as benchmarks for commanding, but thats just me! Oh if there is an "offical" guide please show me.

You have no idea how few people understand command points.

If you are ever commanding, and that generally means you are looking at the command map; and one of your own TKs you it's likely they think you are "wasting" the x2 by not fighting. How little they know.

Commanders are generally not supposed to be involved in combat AT ALL. They should be issuing orders, spotting E from scans, dropping UAV/arty/supplies. When all that's done, you can zoom all the way in and spot more people. It's really a full time job just doing that.

I don't understand how people can play "mobile commanders" they are definatly shirking their command duties by attacking.

In all of the hours that I've played that has only happened to me once or twice. However every single time I've played commander I've had people run straight into arty and punish me for it. Rarely is punishing a commander for arty called for, and if it is he shouldn't be the commander in the first place.

Fact is as commander you should NEVER be putting down arty where there are friendlies. Theres absolutly no reason for it.

I'd say almost every arty strike should be put down near friendlies in my experiences. It's not like there is usually some huge group of enemies waiting in a secluded area to get bombed. The problem is that most people either:

1) Don't look at the damn minimap to see that they are running straight for arty
2) Don't have enough patience to wait the 5 seconds for it to pass

One problem with that, if you are not near the arty when it's called in, you don't get the "incoming" message (commander can still manually issue it). So yeah, if you don't watch the mini-map (not always possible say in a fast buggy, gotta keep your eyes on the road) somtimes you can drive straight into it. I'v done that more than once.

I am most definately not a "mobile commander". If I am a commander I hide in the far most corner of a map and do my job, thats it! But I will admit to being slightly underknowledable regarding that role, but I still do a good job of it.

Well things like that are going to happen sometimes. I'm more referring to the guys that literally run straight into it. I can't count the number of times that I've watched people in the overhead view run into the arty AS it's striking.
