Another alternative? Ultra X cables?

Think I'm going to go this route. Instead of spending close to $300.00 on a new SLI ready PSU, I think I'm just going to get the Ultra-X cables. They make cables that will be compatible with PCI-X setup. Also they have the 20-24 pin adaptor. I wont be losing any connection as with the 6800 Ultra I have in there now takes 2 x 4 pin molex's, and the dual 6800GT's I have will only use 2 of the molex inputs coming straight off of the PSU. So I'll still have the same connection setup. you guys give me your input on this. Also I've been reading everywhere that people with a SLI setup have been doing fine ruinning non-SLI certified PSU's. So I think I should be fine. Think so?

NOTE: I apologize for asking so many questions on this PSU issue, but I just want to do the right thing while spending the minimal amount of money.

Why don't you just buy this PSU?

It is a very good PSU that would be fien for an SLI rig. I don't know why you are going SLI, but have trouble affording a PSU though. If your going SLI I would think you should at least be able to get a OCZ Poerstream 520w.
It's not that I can't afford a highend PSU it's the question of do I really need a new one.

You're going to be spending a lot of money on some glorified molex to 6-pin PCI-E connections.

Those cables will be really stiff for cable management... so I guess you'll want them showing.

Bad idea. SLI+20-24pin adapter=Bad times

Go with the better PSU instead.

PSUs have the boring steel covers for a reason. That acrylic will let out huge amounts of EMI. Besides, all that looks tacky...

Get a legitimate PSU.

well...
the Ultras arent exactly a high quality high performance supply
and there are a great number of variables, it might work, it might not
if you try it Id recommend a cool environment, basic config and UPS

To be a balance against what Ice said: I had a pair of 6600+'s on a Neo4 with an X-Connect. Also know a guy with a pair of 6800's on an A8N board. Neither one of us have had any issues.

Now, you didn't say you HAD an X-Connect. It seems to me that you just want to use the cables, right? Won't work if you don't have an Ultra PSU. The 4-pin Molex is male, to fit into the power supply. If you want adapters, you'll need female.

Absolutely! :D

I actually killed an Enermax and an Antec in two different PC's because they weren't in "cool" environments.

Then again... I live in Florida. It's hard to have a "cool environment." :(

That is what you get for moving to a place called "the sunshine state". ;)

Although being your neighbor to the north we have been in the 60's the last few days.....had to check the calender to be sure it was actually end of May.
