OK, im new to OC'ing.. heres my specs:

Asus p6t dlx
intel 920
ocz 2x3gb ddr3 1600
corsair tx750
msi gtx260
corsair tx750
antec 1200
thermalright TRUE 120 Push/Pull with antec tri-cool @ 1600rpm blowing out back of case

so i entered bios and pretty much matched the settings that kyle benett used in the p6t overclocking video;
vcore 1.33
dram voltage: 1.64
disabled speedstep
20x multi
185 bclck (3.7ghz)
ddr1533 mhz i think..

Running p95 and using realtemp v2.9 im getting temps of up to 84 deg C load after only about 20 mins of testing. I'm wondering if there is any way to adjust some of my voltages to lower this? or do i have to improve my cooling somehow? I will try the antec fans on 2200rpm tonight and see if that makes a difference.. maybe some 38mm thick fans instead of 25mm?? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated... thanks.
 
That does seem just a little hotter than it should be for Prime95 for no more voltage your using and only at 3.7Ghz. I have mine at 3.8Ghz and currently running around 1.35v till I lower the voltage a little more maybe. I just fired up Prime95 Blend and my load temp is only about 68C using a TRUE 120 push/pull. I also have the Antec 1200 and I have the top fan and two rear fans running on medium speed. You may have higher ambient temps and not as good of airflow.

I wouldn't bother with 38mm fans. If anything I'd just make sure you have two good 120x25's on your TRUE and you could lap your TRUE if you wanted to help to help temps a couple of degrees. Also try reseating your heatsink and make sure you applied the thermal compound correctly.
 
i turned my cpu fans up to 2200 rpm, and the top and back fans to med like you have, any now im getting like 76 deg.. i applied the thermal paste with a credit card; spreading it out evenly.. (about a pea size) maybe i will pull out my heatsink tommorow and redo the paste... do you have any problems with the backplate falling out of the mobo holes when removing the heatsink while in case? thanks.
 
just remember the temps you see in p95 and IBT are extreme temps.. you will never see temps that high EVER.. no matter what your doing.. so dont go totally over board trying to cool it based on p95/IBT.. even if you loaded up all 8 threads i doubt you will even reach 75C let alone doing everyday things probably wont even reach 65C.. but id say if the overclocks stable.. turn speedstep back on so you can control your idle temps..

thanks for yours and everyone eles's advice, this forum has really helped me out.... Is it really beneficial to re-enable speedstep? is there any negatives? my idle temp is like 36c
 
it will just drop the multiplier on the cpu.. it may drop the temp a little but in the long run it should save you a little power.. because with it off its basicly running at what ever oc you have no 24/7 instead of say running at 1ghz per core idle(i could be wrong i cant remember what the idle speed is on the i7 since all my amd cpu's idle at 1ghz when using cool n' quiet).. also helps the lifespan of the cpu..
 
Get off the 20 multi , run 19 multi with 200 BClock : this results in better performance for ya ram ( you can run it at 1600 mhz now) and ya cpu will require less volts then with the 20 multi...

Set QPI clock at 1.36 for 200Bclock

With my 920 on the Gb UD5

3.9Ghz

20 x 190 : requiring 1.28Vcore
19 x 200 : requiring 1.25Vcore

Odd multies are better then even multies on these CPU's...
