Hey guys,

I just received my Samsung 710T today before I went to work and I must say, it's friggin' awesome. I haven't been able to test it thoroughly yet, but I have never seen so crisp an image at 1280 x 1064 on a monitor before. I think I made a good investment (despite your conscious objections, vinny77).

I know several others of you have received one as well, so I know that you can bask in my joy as well. And I haven't seen a single dead or screwed up pixel, so I feel even better about it. I'll add a review for others that were in my position looking at monitors as time permits within the next day or so...

Ok, I'm definitely new to owning a DVI capable monitor, so forgive me for being rather less knowledable than a sizable portion of you all. I have a Powercolor 9700 Pro (Evil Commando 2) and it definitely is DVI capable, but when I try to hook up my 710T to the DVI slot on my video card, I do not get a signal. Is there something I'm not doing in settings somewhere where I might not have it enabled somehow?

should be enabled by default. when i plugged my two babies in the first time, they were mirroring each other, then i had to enable extend desktop on the display panel to get dual screen action.
 
The 710T should search for the signal. It did on mine. If you only have it hooked up to DVI then it wont find an analog signal, and go to digital. There is a source button on the 710T, change it to Digital if it isnt already. You could also restart your computer, the Video card should be putting out through the DVI already. My 9700Pro did.
 
No problems with my 9700 Pro using the DVI connector.

So far I've noticed one fault with the monitor but it's not permanent.. when I run Magictune Color tuner, I end up with what would otherwise be great color except the hue gets a little bit darker and redder toward to the top of the panel. For example my browser window is a grayish color on the bottom, and more of a khaki-ish gray toward the top.

Otherise, not a single dead pixel, very crisp image, extremely bright, overall seems like a great unit.
 
Well, I don't know if it's my video card somehow, but DVI is a no-go for me right now, which really upsets me. When I restarted, I received a "Check video cable" message on the screen. Perhaps I need a pure DVI cable, but I can'tseem to get DVI working on my card.

On another note, even in analog mode, I noticed a substantial performance increase in every game I've played on my system so far. I just got done testing Need for Speed Underground and everything loaded even quicker in game. The status bar on the game when loading a map goes so fast, it's almost indistinguishable and the quality of the picture in-game is superb and sharp.

So far, I have nothing but good things to say about this monitor. I've noticed no ghosting, the image quality is impressive, and the brightness and contrast are well balanced, albeit a tad too vivid by default.

I'd recommend this monitor to anyone wanting to free up a LOT of desk space and enjoy a good quality monitor. Samsung delivers yet again.

That is odd, I don't think it is the 710T causing the problem, must be the 9700. Eitherway, at least you like it! Enjoy it!
 
I bought the 710T today and I have a strange problem. Whenever I play video's fullscreen stripes start to appear all over the screen. Flickering stripes.

Is my videocard to slow? (GeForce Ti4200, 128Mb)
 
I also just received my 710T. Absolutely beautiful! No dead pixels, I run a 9500PRO and am connected with DVI. I also have no objections to how it runs with video games, I have played UT2004, Call of Duty, and Counter-Strike so far.

I did not have any DVI problems, but I also had to install XP new when my hard drive died. I waited to do so until the 710T arrived.
 
9800xt, and actually it was. It told you straight up that it is not the monitor and rather the graphics card in conjunction with the monitor. Thanks Smart-Ass McGee.

By the way, I'd check the cable and make sure that it's secure and not compromised.
 
OK, another question: Is it normal that (on black screens) I see the backlights (bottom and top ones) very clearly through the black screen?
 
You should only see that when black is not actually being created by the pixels (as in they are off but the backlight is on - such as in DOS and booting windows).
 
I can still see them if I make a fully black slideshow (with Powerpoint). :mad: Not super clearly, but they are notable (everyone sees 'em). Am I whining or is this a production fault?

Btw, the stripes are gone after I changed the refreshrate from 75Hz to 60Hz. I think it's normal, since 75Hz is not a mode the monitor is able to display (according to WinXP).
 
It can display 75hz at 1280x1024 w/ 32-bit on my 9800xt. When I view a solid black picture, I cannot see the backlights. When I view a powerpoint presentation that has solid black background, I cannot see the backlights. When I reboot windows, I can.
 
I just run it at 60hz, since that is the spec. I think it looks equal to 75hz, if not a tiny bit better.
 
I'm thinking of getting one. I had a VP171B and it was great. I just got the 2001FP and the screendoor effect is driving me crazy. So it's either another VP171B or the 710T. Anyone used both?

But can you play videos fullscreen at 75Hz without the striping? And if so, do you think it's my videocard or is my LCD display not 'perfect'?

The backlight thing maybe be common for European 710T's. Mine is silver btw and European (build in Slovakia).

Btw, I highly recommend this monitor!

the only way to really tell is to try out both the 710t and VP171B,

Reason being. Different people are suceptible to screen door effect. Some notice them and some don't. Only your eyes can make that choice for you though.

LCD are not like crt you should be running at naitive 60hrtz

different folks are susceptible to the "screen door" some people see it. Others don't. Quite simple actually.

Just like in the DLP realm. SOME people are susceptible to "rainbow" artifacting. Some are not.

Only the persons own eye can make that decision.
 
umm, i dont mean to hijak the thread but ive got a quick question for all you 710t owners. Im just wondering if the image quality is very bad at 1024 comapred to 1280. the reason i ask is because i dont think that my rig could handle somethin like D3 at 1280(so i would end up playin at 1024), and im thinking about getting a 710t. thanks.
 
The 710T does a very good job of interpolating in games. It is really only noticeable on the text.
 
Well, it depends on the environment that you are playing in, to be honest. In Windows, you should notice a fairly distinguishable difference than the native resolution. When running in games however, I haven't noticed all that much difference. It is always best to run the LCD monitor at its native resolution though, that's a given.

Regarding my last post, I'm honestly wondering if my graphics card is the culprit. I have a Sapphire 9500 Atlantis and I am going to try it in DVI. If both fail, I KNOW that it's something else. And it can't be my actual analog cable because I receive perfect signal in analog mode.

Also, is there a $100 difference between the 710N and the 719T?

I can only say this: this LCD freakin' rocks! :cool:

I love it, it's very sharp, the colors are good and no ghosting.
 
DVI is much better. Considering getting a non-DVI lcd at this point in time is foolish. DVI provides true 1 to 1 coloring instead of the approximation of VGA. Spend the extra $60 (@ebuyer.com) and get the T.

DVI is the future connection of monitors, getting a VGA only is just giving the monitor a disadvantage.

Can anyone say that they notice a diffrence betwen 19.2million and 19.7million (24bit) colors?

Im comming from a 19" Trinitron @ 32bit..... and im worried im going to notice a diffrence ~_~.

Also, how is the Glare? does this monitor have an anti-glare coating? Such as when a desk lamp is right near it.
