Another 2005fpw

Well I just got my 2005fpw and as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to have dead pixels and the backlighting is minimal (though I haven't tested it in a dark room yet). I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to callibrate the colors on this thing? Or rather what settings people are using.

The colors are better than an old 19" LCD that I had, but when playing DVDs it still doesn't touch the clarity of my 19" CRT.

One thing that does bug me is that I thought wide screen were actually wider, but the Dell just seems to stretch things out! I'm currently running my CRT and the 2005 as a dual mon setup, and when I drag windows over to the dell, all it does is stretch the window out! So is the 2005 just a 17" LCD that stretches an extra few inches?! The reason I got the LCD was to get more real estate to work on. If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated.

Another thing is that the desktop does not fill up the entire screen. There's like about a 1/2 cm black bar on the top and bottom of the lcd. Is this normal?

Check to make sure you have the resolution set correctly; if it is a traditional 4:3 (or 5:4) res, then yes it is just going to stretch it. You need to set it to a proper 16:9 or 16:10 res to get the wider real estate.

Sorry for being a noob, but how do u set it to 16:9? It doesn't seem to be in the menu. I'm wondering if pairing it up with the 19" CRT is causing issues?


Hmmmmm...according to nvidia's nview my 2005 is set at 1280x1024, but there's no option for the ws res.

edit: Well, ok I set it to the correct res in the windows properties, but now my wall paper is dinky because it is 4:3. Hmmm, there's no way to have both a WS and 4:3 wallpaper when you're running dual with a regular mon and a WS is there? =P


Hmmmm, this might get a little tricky when I get my intuos 3. Maybe I should have invested in the 6x11.

One thing I do notice is that for some reason movies on any LCD that I've had seem to look a lot grainier than a CRT. I guess you could say there's a lot of chatter going on on the screen. It's still visible in the CRT, but much more pronounced on the LCD. Also maybe because the LCD is so sharp, the picture looks grainier. Just curious if anyone else concurs with this observation.

This is most likely due to the fact that you are stretching a 720x480 video signal to 1680x1050, which is more than double the original content. You should see how grainy DVD's look at 1920x1200 on my 2405FPW.

Hmmmm...another odd thing is that my Image Settings are all greyed out and so is the PIP/PBP. I can only choose Composite or S-Video for the PIP funciton. What is the PIP for? Do you hook up your game console or something or what have people found this useful for?

Ok, so I actually took the time to search and I guess with DVI you don't need to adjust colors or contrast since it's a digital signal, and I need to tweak the settings with my drivers. Can anyone share there color settings via the drivers?

do you have Ultramon? it allows you to have separate wallpapers on each monitor (among other useful features); that way you can select a WS wallpaper for one and a 4:3 for the other.

hehe tis true, can't sit right up close or it becomes quite noticeable. luckily, with 24" of goodness, you can sit quite far away and enjoy a gorgeous picture

if you really want to check the quality, you could set it to 1:1 instead of Fill... you should get black bars around the picture (as it won't scale it) but it will show you the original quality (and why it looks grainy when scaled up).

no ultramon, I just chose the 2005 for the primary display and stretched the wallpaper out for now.

At first coming from a 19"LCD this monitor felt really really small, but I'm getting used to it. However, if anyone feels inclined to trade me there 2045 for my 2005, I wouldn't mind.
