All,

Finally finish building my rig, and I'm overrall pretty happy with it. The only thing that is annoying the crap out of me is that its too loud. There is a bad whirring towards the back of the case. I'm pretty sure its the video card. I'm using the 2 stock case fans and an Enermax Liberty 500w psu. The video card is XFX PVT73GUGD3 GeForce 7600GT. Is there a quiter vid card?

Thanks!

There are several things you can do to silence your SG01.

1. Zalman VF900 or VF700 for the video card
2. Silverstone NT06 lite CPU cooler
3. Silent Case fans

My Fragox (same as SG01) is nearly silent with the components I am using - Silent case fans and an NT06 cooler. My stock video card cooler on the 7950GX2 is nearly silent as well.

Thanks! I'm using the NT06 on the cpu as well. The only difference is the stock case fan and my vid card I'm using. I'm almost positive its the vid card.

Thanks!

You guys convinced me! Just plopped down $40 for the zalman 900 and 2 enermax 80mm silent case fans.

Hope this works!

dworley: so your Liberty 620W PSU and the NT06 are enough to keep your cpu cool? I have a Silverstone ST60F and that thing is loud as hell. It's such a drag. Other than that, I am totally digging my new fragbox build (see my sig). I tried swapping the fan out in the psu to something quieter (and subsequently moves less air) and it didn't work out. I fired up Prime95 to make sure I wasn't going to have temperature issues and after about 10 minutes my cpu had reached 90C!!! The my pc froze and went to a BSD. I put the old fan back in and everything is working fine. Guess I am pretty lucky I didn't fry my FX-60...

If you are getting reasonable temps with the Liberty and an NT06, maybe I will try that. Or how about a Seasonic M12...? What do you think?

Instead of wasting money on the more expensive M12, I'd suggest the Corsair HX series. You get a PSU made by Seasonic for cheaper than Seasonic sells their own. They're also very quiet.

Thanks guys, good advice.

Have either of you tried these fans with an NT06 in an SG01 or FragBox case? The PSU that I have now, the Silverstone ST60F is a great psu, it's just a little loud for my application. I would like something quieter, but I also need to make sure that it can move enough air to cool both the cpu on the psu. As I said, I tried putting a quieter fan in my ST60F and it couldn't hack it...my cpu overheated. So before I even consider buying another psu I want to hear from someone that has used it with an NT06 cooler in a SFF case...
