Annoying decisions

Just a quick question:

Will I need a gtx780 to get the most out of an Eizo FG2421? I had intended to get the 770, especially since the Eizo is 1080p...

Alternately, it seems I could wait for a IPS GSync monitor + whatever card...but who knows when that will be available...

just wanted to get a round of opinions before i buy.

thanks a lot.

Which processor will you be using?.. You need a really powerfull CPU to keep lower FPS at a high point, and avoid high FPS drop spikes that could be really be annoying (specially on games that really render every frame like skyrim or fallout new vegas it could be very annoying).. If you are planing to enjoy fully 120hz then you need both a powerfull GPU and CPU.. Of course the best way would be to pick a gtx 780 i use it with my BenQ XL2420T and it forced me to bump a bit my 3770K to 4.5ghz in some games to keep the frame rate at such high levels..

oh man, you will really need to overclock the hell out of that chip, actually are games where even a 2500k at some mild 4.0ghz can't maintain locked 60FPS (specially those games that are poorly coded or oldie ones).. i would try to overclock first to at least 4.4ghz in that CPU which should be really easy and still be cold in a 2500K..

Yeah even with a 2500k at 4.4, 60 fps cannot be maintained at all times in some games. And even in games that can get well over 60 fps, you will find that cpu tapped out in some cases. My 2500k at 4.4 was hitting 95-100% usage in some games. Going to a 4770k helped out and gave me plenty of breathing room.

Bottom line is I would still go ahead and get the 780 over the 770 for that 120 hz screen and oc your 2500k to help out. Crysis 3 will be about the only game that will be noticeably held back by an oced 2500k in spots and even that may not bother you. Maybe upgrade your cpu with the Haswell refresh if you feel you need to.

What cooler are you running on the CPU? If stock you might want to get a CM 212+ cooler at the least for overclocking.
