Anyone more familiar with this series want to give a few words on what it is like?

Futuristic Simcity? Would be kind of interested in a near future type city/empire building game.

there's a demo here http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3231027629/m/8811029859

haven't tried it yet but afaik it's basically more of the same concept from the previous annos, expanded a bit with a futuristic theme instead of historical. you got all the same civ building, production chains, trading, etc, definitely worth a go if they maintain the same kind of quality from previous titles, if you're at all into econ/city building type sims.

I haven't played any of the previous Anno games, so no idea what the series was about in detail. I'm not into historical games of this type (well of that period at least) as much, so never looked into them. But because they changed the time period it peaked my interest more.

I'll check out that demo, thanks.

the anno series is pretty good. unlike Civ 5 its not turn based, its real time which makes it a heck of a lot more enjoyable. i haven't played 2070 yet though. i've played all the other versions. 1702 got boring insanely fast though so i really hope they worked on the AI and maps in Anno 2070.

as a historical standpoint, anno series is not historical. heck the years they use are all based on the fact that they equal the number 9. while each game is within those time periods there isn't really much of a historical standing to the game.

Dawn of Discovery (whichever Anno that was) and Dawn of Discovery - Venice got boring pretty quickly in single player. Wouldn't buy it until it really comes down in price.

Dawn of Discovery was 1404. Really it was the only one of them with that problem so hopefully this one is much better. Destructoid's review was pretty glowing.

So far there aren't a ton of reviews, but they are all stellar. 9/10 from all the ones I've seen. It is on my list for once I play down some of my backlog.

played the demo for about 15 mins graphics were amazing for a rts type game

need to give it a few hours b4 i say anything final but from what i saw so far i will be picking this up eventualy maybe a xmas sale for it on steam ? lol never played a anno game b4 but this is made by blue byte, same folks that make the settlers games love those might have to pick up the old anno games if i see them on sale some were just love games like these lol

I put around 20 hours into one map of Anno 1404, played it for 12 hours straight at one point...
Easily the best Civ-style game I've ever played, immensely impressive. I expect the same from 2070.

i have about 50 hours in anno 1404 and about 20 hours in anno 1702, graphically they are good looking games, game play is way better then the civ games(because i friggin hate turn based games) but the AI sucks balls. everytime i played i just ended up wiping out the AI and being done with them because they were so annoying.

Awesome looking game but.......Ubisoft. Just looked on the steam page, 3rd party DRM and it says "Solidshield Tages SAS
3 machine activation limit

FUCK THIS. When will ubisoft learn? The game is already available to pirates on torrent sites. So the pirates get the better version while paying customers get screwed? Pisses me off.

Not liking this 3 activation limit though. Since one of the appeals for me with this type of game is it is more versatile to play on the go and enjoy without having to be at my main PC, so I would install it on more machines.

But after trying the demo the game does look good, and I'm kind of a sucker for water effects. Will remember this to revisit this later on since I do have a few to play at the moment and the price will come down.

I mean the setting doesn't interest me for these types of games. Well really come to think about it a medieval type setting doesn't interest me at all outside of fantasy games. Maybe post Steam age would be what interests me, which I think the previous Anno games were set before that?

So seeing this as set in the near future is what got my attention.

ah that's dissapointing, I thought ubi was dropping this for their own orbit platform with the one time activations only. maybe scrapped the idea since it was such massive failure, I guess they really will never learn. now it's just going to get broken and passed around, while everyone else has to deal with this shit, it's so self defeating.

I even remember their last version they had confirmed it would be coming without tages, then they released with it anyway and didn't tell anyone. I would wait for around the 3rd patch or so when they usually end up stripping it once they squeeze out those few sales, so you won't have to deal with those.

Its dumb when its a steam game. Cant even argue its to prevent used game sales. Going to wait for the game to be on a steam sale before getting. If I get it at all.

As far as I know this isn't a Steamworks game. Are there Steamworks games with activation limits?

If you mean that publishers/developers should custom tailor games for the version Steam sold on, that would be another issue. But one I disagree with being on the onus of the publisher/developer.

activation limits and steamworks features are not mutually exclusive, there's just no reason to have limits in the first place either way. if they're going to use custom orbit activation, then tages is also not necessary, and could still easily work with steam distro. but ubi insists on throwing it in there, because they believe it will somehow prevent zero day cracks, and they don't want second hand users to have mp.

thats what is meant by self defeating, because by now breaking tages is standard in any cracking groups toolkits, making it basically worthless for their intended purpose. so it accomplishes absolutely nothing useful besides more complications for the user.

dont they alwasy remove these install limits 6 months after the game is out or was that only for a few games

Just watched some more gameplay vids and I just have to say how bad it sucks this is a ubi published game...Wow... ubi is neutering the potential sales of this game by yet again punishing legit users..

A torrent is available with the game files yes, but the game has no been cracked - yet.

They make no guarantees. They have done that in some cases but they don't promise it. Also only happens with some versions as well. With Anno 1401, the previous one (Dawn of Discover in the US since I guess we are too stupid to know what Anno means) the copy protection was patched out on the disc version but remains on digital download versions.

They are still being real fuckers about the DRM issue in some cases. They are also being rather schizophrenic. Some games have minimal DRM. AC Brotherhood just has to activate once online, and can reactivate as much as you like. Other games, like Splinter Cell, you have to be online all the time. They can't seem to decide what they want.

Was curious to check this game out, looks interesting. But I'm passing on it, like all Ubi games... oh well no big loss I guess.

After the BF3 Patch I was pretty upset and went to Steam to look for a new game and decided its time for a good RTS.

Anyways steam is over charging since you can get it much cheaper from Amazon.

For people that have played this game.
I have never played any Anno or Dawn of Discovery games.
I saw some gameplay on youtube and this looks like it would be tons of fun..

I love RTS and have played a few in the past nothing as big as this game ofcourse.

Would you guys recommend this game?
It looks beautifull and it looks like tons of fun.
The Sandbox mode has me really really interested.
The only down side is alot of peeps say there is no real tutorials and I check out GameFAQ and there is nothing on the game yet.

How difficult is this game to pick up.
Also I looked under Ubisoft's website and No dedicated Forum thread on this game yet??? Kinda stupid.

I'm in the same boat as a lot of people in this thread. I want to give this game a shot, it looks like a lot of fun. But I can't in good conscience buy a Ubi game anymore.

Yeah I have read thread after thread about people not purchasing this game for that reason.

But this game looks so cool , why do that to your self.

I still have not purchased it, its 40 bucks on amazon.

Holy fucking assraping SHIT this game is addictive. None of that was hyperbole. Seriously, I can easily spend +10 hours at a sitting playing this game. That's exactly what I did when I had an exam next morning until 3AM.

Ignore the ubisoft online DRM, this game is absolutely worth it.

Yeah I got this game today at 6:00 PM and played about 6 hours straight.

The graphics are amazing and the deph of this game is INSANE.

You do need a u play account and I tried the Multiplayer mode but no one was on.

In SandBox mode
I was the Corp faction and I kept getting stuck cause I needed building modules or tools.
For a while I could get tons of them from a merchant ship, but the ship just got out of dodge
and I never saw him again.
To make my own building modules I needed to gather some sort of sand that only an Island next to mine had.

Do you know what I need to do so I can move to another Island?

It's a combination of two things. I do not want to support their crap. If I buy it, they'll look at it as their UPlay BS working and ramp it up further. Plus I have legitimate concerns about when and if I'll actually be able to play the game if they decide to give up support after a year or two and I'll have to look into cracking my legit copy anyway. It's just a hassle I'd rather avoid.

I'm glad to hear you are really enjoying it though. Maybe I'll break down and get it when it gets down to around $5 and Ubi won't actually make a profit on my purchase.

Get any ship, put a few building blocks and tools into the cargo. Then go to any island shore, and a build harbor button will show up.

You can play offline if you sign into your UPlay account and check remember me there and when the Anno game first comes on. There are daily world events that you will miss out on if you play offline as they are digitally delivered like the newspaper everyday. But it works great for my cheapskate nephew until he can afford his own copy.

I believe you're allowed to register three machines before you have to contact them for another activation. Someone asked for the official Anno website and it's located here.

If you look at the menus on the official website there is a demo to try the game. The demo was 1GB and I believe the game was a 5.5GB download from Amazon. I haven't really had a chance to play it, but my nephew swears it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Hope my 3:45 am ramblings help someone make a decision on the game.

yeah its way better then 1702 thats for sure. though i'm not really a fan of the eco crap in the game, some of the stuff just doesn't make any sense.

you can buy tooks from your ark as well. the ark lets you buy 40t's of tools every 20-30 minutes i believe.

Just finished the campaign. The last mission I took it slowly... ended up to be 11 hours :) Enjoyed the campaign a lot. Now doing single missions.

Overall I like the game. But somehow I miss the medieval theme and keep thinking of 1404. I wish the next Anno will be middle age again, involving european, arabic and asian factions/ kingdoms!

Edit: check out http://anno2070.wikia.com/wiki/Anno_2070_Wiki for layouts and production chains for help

Ok cool thanks for all the info.

The Wiki Anno2070 will be very helpfull.

Yeah Im not into the whole Eco thing either and hate what their buildings look like.
I went with the Corp and acquired a fleet from the proffessor.
I was lobbying his ass and he got me a Fleet of Warships.
But, I think since I went with the easy mode Im not allowed to attack the tree hugers yet
I want to create the most polluted nation ever and full of fatasses that eat hamburgers
instead of healthy foods.

I think tonight im going back to campaign since I only played about 1 hr of campaign but they do
teach you many things.

Also one more question if some one knows. I purchased the Deluxe edition since it was 3 dollars more.
It has 2 items that I have no idea how to access yet - Breona Ibori and Formula: Sonic modulator.

Cant wait till I get to go home and play some more. I wish I didnt have to work tomorrow!

i haven't touched the campaign and probably never will, can't stand playing them in any game. went straight to the sandbox mode like i do on all of the anno games. i already tried the whole polluted thing, it just makes the eco people mad, blah blah blah.. doesn't really do anything.. i also let my huge city burn down which was fun..

as far as attacking the eco people, you want to piss them off so they cut off the diplomacy first then you can attack them.. or at least thats how i did it.

Had a chance to play this and the game is great. Excellent graphics and the gameplay is addictive. I know there are quite a few Ubisoft haters here but I'd recommend it to anyone who likes these types of games.
