I always figured a "mac gamer" was a pc or console gamer that also owned a mac for doing pretty stuff.

If you think for 2 seconds the term "mac gamer" implies that the person plays on a mac. Its pretty basic English really. There is no other meaning it could possibly have.
You wouldn't call yourself a semi mechanic if you fix go karts and just happen to own a semi would you? Unless you work on that semi you are not a semi mechanic.
That is why people poke fun at the term because mac users misuse it horribly.
