Pretty good review. They used a 9700 Pro, and 9800 Pro. Would have been nice to use a 5900 series card to do with them. Lots of mid to lower range cards as well. Image quality from the two seems to be about even with AA/AF, although they didnt do many comparisons.

The only time there is a real "clear" winner to me is at 1600x1200x4xAA. The XT leads by about 20% over the Ultra. Sadly, they dont use that res/setting with the Pro vs. GT.

They, too, used their own custom demos, which I think is a good idea. They even bolded this part, "ATI is distributing some of their own demos but we elected not to use them in order to remain as fair as possible. Oddly enough though, they had no problems using the custom made demos by NV in Farcry.

Overall looks to be a good review.

You can also download their demos, and test them yourself to compare.
 
Without af and aa the 800xt card is only winning by 5-6% against 6800ultra at all resolutions. The reason I dont care about the benchmarks with AA and AF is because both are playing dirty tricks with these options. I think just by looking at the pure speed on both video cards gives a more accurate result on hardware muscle. The game is still programmed to run faster on ati but not by alot.

Valve is forcing DX8 for the nv3x series, so that will be in the next part.

Plus AT used older drivers for nvidia. Anyways, it's safe to say from [h] , AT and other non-driverheaven sites that there is much, much less than a 40% difference between respective nv and ati cards. Less than 20% at worst with current drivers.
 
I know they force DX9 on 59xx cards, I guess it will be in an update.

Yeah Brent, they are. Anywhere from 45 seconds, to 90 seconds it seems. Ive ran them on my PC to compare.

I haven't ran them yet but I saw the file size, have you ran ours?

Curious what people think about them.

So you're telling us that spending $400-$500 on a video card doesn't warrant turning on all the "eyecandy"? Who in thier right mind will play HalfLife 2 with out AA and AF turned on? Benchmarks with AA and AF are totally fair because these are the settings that the majority of us will use.

You playing games with or without aa and af is none of my bussines, you do whatever you want with your video card. What I am saying is that today you can not trust the benchmarks that use aa and af, both companies are playing tricks with drivers and not giving you the real thing.

Considering our demos are FULL LEVEL runthroughs, it would be very easy to skew the benchmarks one way or another pulling GPU intensive scenes that favored NVIDIA or ATI. I am not saying that this was done on purpose, but it surely would describe some of the differences you see between our results and AT's.

While these were frame rate comparisons, we still focused on the timedemos we recorded being based on real gameplay experience.
