Among all the iPhone news today, there is word that new iPods are coming soon. According to an analyst at UBS Investment Research, new flash based iPod video and a new iPod nano are expected to be announced next month.

In his note to clients, the UBS analyst also said he expects Apple to refresh its iPod video and iPod nano lines sometime next month. Among the expected introductions are higher capacity iPod nanos at aggressive price points, as well as a flash based widescreen video iPod likely using multi-touch technology for less than $300.

so can someone tell me why we need some analyst to speculate on a new ipod?!?!? who pays these clowns?!?

Oh, God. He works for an investment firm, dude. It's his JOB to anticipate market trends that will affect sales and stocks.

Having said that, I thought it was a little incongruous myself. Anticipating Apple releasing a new iPod is like expecting the sun to come up. It sounds a little to me like the article's focusman is trying to drum up a little stock market surge on no news. On the other hand, flash-based video iPod with multi-touch FTW. :)

Actually I see where it's "an analyst".

In that case, the verb needs to be fixed.

So the headline should read: "Analyst Predicts New iPods Next Month"

Nit-picking, yeah maybe. These things should not happen on the front page of any media outlet that wants to be taken seriously though.

I suppose on a great site like [H] you notice the small things. :)

Flash based ipod video sounds like something I'd actually want to buy, considering I want to listen to music while running/moving, but want high capacity.

What a joke. Apple releases a stupid mp3 player with some "new" feature and analysts get excited. There are 10 billions mp3 players better than ipods which are cheaper and already have most of the features (if not more).

Could you name a few cuz I'm thinking of getting one but don't want an ipod.

Okay, I'm confused? Do we hate Microsoft or Apple?

No one moves as many MP3 players as apple. Not even close as a matter of fact. Microsoft tried getting in the game and thus far has not even made a dent in it. And with the success of itunes the Ipod will be the standard for a long time. IN fact Itunes has sold more then a billion songs int he last 6 months alone. Cant argue with numbers like that. I am not saying they are the best I am just looking at it from a money standpoint.

I predict we will be using oil next month for our transportation, we shall still be breathing air, and computers will still be around.

Somone give me a cookie.

Somone give me a cookie.

Funny, but the analyst didn't ask for a cookie. He just gave out the analysis. You, my friend, are greedy.

Common! I was only asking for a chocolate chip cookie... nothing fancy.

Btw, I bet the guy got paid with enough money to buy me a lifetime supply of cookies.:p

Microsoft's Zune just ended up getting sold off on Woot the other day, and if that's not a sign of a technology getting kicked to the curb, I don't know what is.
If Apple hadn't designed one of the best players on the market, they wouldn't be running the DAP show. End of story.

Does the Ipod even have a damn equalizer yet? Apple doesn't have the best products, just the best marketing/name.

I'll stick to Cowon and Creative DAPs.

I know what you said. I'm saying the iPod sucks. :p

It doesn't even have an equalizer, just presets.
It only supports a few audio/video formats.
The sound quality isn't that great (not terrible though, unless you try to use the presets)
You have to use iTunes.
The click wheel sucks.
It looks girly.

I know a few of these issues can be fixed with rockbox firmware, but it still looks girly. :)

Well then, color me effeminate. :D
That's quite the debate issue right there, some of those things I see as advantages. Personally, (and yeah, this is just me here) I like using iTunes more than anything else, I'm not enough of an audiophile to tell the sound quality that much, and I think the wheel is smeksy.

I agree that it would be nice to support xvid, avi, etc. And my iPod has a skin of hotness on it, so I covered that. ;) I agree to disagree, and you make valid points all the same. :)

Its really silly to get an iPod these days, but I still see Nanos all around me for some reason, mainly because of the marketing and peer pressure.

Chipods are better than it, and I mean it.

All iPods do is cost more for less; no recording audio, playing recorded audio, radio, flash support, text or pdf reading, eq, etc.

Look into Meizu or Cowon if you need a new MP4 player. mp4nation.com is good.

sweet, can't wait to see it.. im interested in getting an ipod.

You know, one of the advantages of getting an Ipod is the good name that backs it. Apple is probably one of the tech companies that I trust the most. Yeah, they compete with Windows, which I am a fan of, but at least they do so gracefully (for the most part).

I thought this new Itunes Plus would be a bigger story...?

Especially at $1.29 and the fact that yesterday I HAD to get it because they weren't offering a song I wanted at the regular 99 cent rate.

Well apparently it's been around awhile, but I JUST came across an itunes plus song for the first time the other day. Live and learn
