An idea using a heat exchanger from work...

I was looking at a heat exchanger we have at work. They are used to cool our electronics at a paper mill. The temps in the mill can get to 125+ degrees on the mill floor. This makes me wonder about it's possible use for a home PC.

It is all copper tubing with aluminum fins on on the outside. The tubing runs back and forth multiple times though the fins. (See the top of the pic.) The shroud is AlNiCo and painted grey. Between the shroud and heat exchanger fins is a foam type material to ensure the airflow goes through the fins..

The mounting holes look and pretty much measure up to 140mm fans.

Any thoughts? I can get a new one for free to try out. (this is an old one that sprung a leak after 5 years)

Should work fine. Looks pretty much the same as older watercooling rads.

So any advice on a pump that could run water through all that piping in the heat exchanger?

Also, is it worth it to use this or just stay with an actual PC radiator?

So an update to this... I rigged this up to my PC for liquid cooling and I am completely amazed. This thing is hella efficient with a pair of SP style fans.

I had to do a lot of fabbing for this, but my i7-930 is OC'd to 4.0 with low temps even at 24 hrs burn test.

Any chance for an update on this? Curious what kind of pump and fans you went with, also what temps did you end up with?

It should work great, what size are the inlet/outlets?
It looks very similar to a larger car heatercore which is what I use (with 1/2" ID in/out).

I use an Eheim 1048 pond pump for my rig, its silent, very reliable and works well.
