I have an old 7900 sitting and a friend wants to use it.
They have an HP and the power supply is not going to be able to handle it.

Question is does HP use retardo proprietary connections for their motherboards or can I just snag a power supply and set this card up for them?
 
HP Pavilion 7900's use standard ATX connections. Every model is different tho, so make sure it is not a 7910 or 7980 or something.
The power supply is a 1/2 ATX form factor, or MicroATX. Meaning it is half as deep, so you may have a clearance problem with the CD drives if you put a standard PSU in. I'd open it and see.

Factory they came with 150-200watt PSU which are crap.
There are 300, 350, and 400w replacements, but check measurements closely. Some websites sell standard ATX as replacements which do not fit with CD drives in the computer.
Also, if you get a Micro ATX (also avalible in higher powers) you may need a bracket since most did not come with a micro ATX.

but no, hp doesnt use stupid connections. any psu(24 pin +4) should work just fine.
