Can someone try a 720p matroska video on their eee pc and report back if it works. I have encoded all my videos @ 720 and want to make sure they will play. Now I know your going to bitch that they are ~4gigs in size, that doesn't concern me. Thanks in advance.

Matroska video? I'd give it a shot if you have a download link and it's legal (and something preferably not 4GBs :p)

*Edit: Ah, a specific codec. If you can link me to a 720p video that's not too large, I'd be happy to try it.

I just tried the Simpons trailer. I had to downgrade mplayer to get the proper codecs working. The video lagged behind the audio significantly--the Eee definitely isn't going to run 720p videos unfortunately, even with the processor at 900MHz (using the 8804 bios).

This thread here suggests that matroska files in general probably won't run to well on the wiki, 720p or otherwise.

Matroska is a container format, not a video compression format. It's just like AVI is, merely a container for the audio and video streams which use their own codecs. If you're trying to play back h.264 stuff then yes, the Eee is going to have a difficult time with that compression since it's much heavier on CPU requirements than most others.

Oooska thanks for the help! I wasn't sure if the video card was able to help the cpu decode h.264, now I know.
