Engadget has posted an early look at Google’s Android today. There are pictures and video as well as a list of features. Definitely worth the click over to check out.

From what we can tell, the OS is as comfortable on larger, VGA devices as it is on more traditional smartphone layouts. Oh yeah... and it plays Quake. Here's what we know the software will support out of the box: Touchscreen. 3G. Webkit-based browser. Threaded text messaging. MPEG-4, h.264, MP3, and AAC file formats. Accelerated 3D graphics.

Plays Quake..
Im Sold...

It is an intresting phone, and over at ModMyMoto and other phone forums there is rumors starting to come up about Google buying Sprint.. These next couple of years are going to be kind of i ntersting in the phone market with all these changes..

Wow, it looks gorgeous. Looks like they took some of the best features of Apple, Vista and Blackberry and merged them nicely together.

At about the 2:00 minute mark of the first YouTube video clip it shows Google trying to spin the Earth around their preferred direction.. gasp! I knew it! ;)

I especially love how the browser works with touchscreen panning and zooming.

Anyone get what phone he was using in that demostration?

If Sprint starts selling a smart phone with Google's Android O/S on it, I'm getting it, as long as it will provide the same functionality my World Phone 8830 does.

the quake feature sold me. They should definitely keep that on their features list.

Plays quake....oh and it makes phone calls too:D

Google have made my dreams come true.... I currently have a Sony Ericcson P990i, and Sony recently announced that they'd stop releasing firmware upgrades to it (idiots) because they think "it works well enough". Which is of course nonsense, it's always going into "can't turn off" mode where it doesn't receive phone calls or doesn't trigger alarms and has to be rebooted by taking out the battery. And the browser memleaks like crazy and crashes. And because it's a closed platform, developing for it is very annoying since if Sony don't document a facility, you can't know how to use it.

Open platform on my phone! At last! WOO!
