I was actually looking at something like the Dayton Audio DTA-100a, BUT it is simply not high enough quality, and has reliability problems.
Wants:
1)Good quality, will be paired with an hrt music streamer II.
2)Has to drive passive speakers (JBL ES20s that I use on the desktop). I'm going to replace my receiver with this amp since it will drive both headphones and speakers.
3)Has to have an on/off switch (I would really like this on the front, it seems basic design is lost on a number of these companies). I can live with it on the back if necessary.
4)Should be able to drive a wide variety of headphones. I have 598s, but plan to get Q701, D2000, and DT880 or 990.
5)I would imagine $300-$350 is reasonable for this, at max. If I'm somehow way off let me know.
I'm very much a mid-fi, 'pro-sumer' kind of guy. I will never spend the amount that some of you do or expect the outright performance. My threshold for 'good enough' is going to be much lower than yours as long as I can meet my basic needs. I don't expect the world. I do appreciate recommendations and will take careful looks at everything.
Right now 598s with the music streamer II and good flacs are the best quality I've ever had and I'm tremendously happy. I'm just rounding out a useful package.
