Samsung or whoever needs to make these suckers a bit bigger and they've got a killer display on their hands. The thing that stands out to me the most, as an LCD user, is the response time. < 0.01ms.....that's pretty darn fast. Could LCD's be on their way out in the next few years? Not likely but it'll probably go the way of CRT's with these new screens. There are other technologies like ..I forgot the name..the CRT with individual electron emitters on each pixel so benefits of CRT but thin. Any maybe carbon nanotube displays...been waiting on news for that for a while now...but besides all that, this AMOLED looks pretty promising.

Samsung and partners have invested a lot in their LCD fabs, I think in 9th gen now? So probably won't switch over immediately but seeing how Samsung already has a working version of this AMOLED while other technologies...uhh...yea there was a display of that thin..crt..individual electron emitter display but where can I get one?

OLED's have taken their sweet time as well. Also, perhaps any plans for LED based LCD's might be dismissed in favor of this?

Nice response time. Less than .01ms. Only a hundred times faster than the best LCD.

The response time is rated at .02ms, but I'd need to see more information about individual color shifts before I threw down 800+ for a monitor like this. Often times the responce time the manufacturer gives you doesn't really mean much.

Man look at that picture so much ghosting. I'm holding out until they get displays under .001 ms response time.

There are no viewing angle issues with OLED, so there shouldn't be any color shifting either.

You're joking right? The colors on the screen do look washed out but it's probably a bad pic and they had the brightness set to full bling.

I'm sure they're at least 3-4 years away from making a decent sized display with this technology. Not to mention it'll probably cost 2-3 times current LCD panel prices. We're a lot further away getting rid of these LCD monitors than we think, just look at SED, it's been a while since it's been announced and no real displays yet. I don't know the difference between AMOLED and OLED but i've only seen one OLED display, on a Zen microphoto and the only thing impressive about the screen was the viewing angles. It wasn't all that bright and the colors didn't look great.

You obviously don't even know what ghosting is. Even 4ms, it would be impossible to tell because of the quality of the photo.

If that were ghosting, then the response time would have had to be at least 100ms! Seriously, though.. it's probably a reflection from a bright ceiling fixture.

i am laughing my ass of at how many people didnt see this as a blatant joke.

Yes, get the joke people.

There are a lot of products which stand to overtake LCD displays, its not a matter of IF but WHEN. OLED type technologies seem to be the most likely replacement for LCDs as they can potentially scale from portable electronics (where they're found now) all the way to wall sized displays. SED is the other competitor but it seems destined to only take over the large screen (+42") market where plasmas roam. I do think we will see LED backlit LCDs become more common perhaps they may even use OLEDs for the backlighting.

Ultimately the problem with all of these is nobody is manufacturing them in larger screens in the case of OLED or at all in the case of SED.

I am going to put that on my must look into list.

Also, correct me, jokes are generally funny? Right?

The reason why OLED is having trouble comming into the display market is that it does not have the lifetime of other technologies. They can use OLED screens on things like cell phones because no one keeps them for very long. I believe a plasma has a useable lifetime of 60,000 hours. However, the blue component of an OLED display has a lifetime of only 1,000 hours.

No radically new technology in the monitor market is going to be able to compete with LCDs because of their price. 99.99999% of all consumers are perfectly happy with them now. Only the enthusiast and professional market cares; and the professional market already has LED backlit LCDs. Unless one of these new technologies can debut with competively priced products and their manufactures can still make a profit with their price that low then I don't think we'll be seeing much if any of them. Plasma screens are a good example of that.

They are if you actually have a sense of humour....

And we all know everyone's sense of humour is identical. We also know that no confusion ever occurs with written communication. The guy who invented the smiley was wasting his time.

Wait... :)

You hit it the nail on the head, people just don't care. They want a thin pretty tv with a bright picture, that's it. Most don't even really notice major problems (backlight bleed, color accuracy/uniformity) they just see it's a lot better than the 7-8 year old junker they just replaced. HD is the same thing, not interesting to most people, like DVD-A, SACD and many others. It's too bad most North Americans don't care for technology because it slows it down for us that do. It seems the only things that do take off are pretty lame like compressed music and the slow death of CDs (Digital audio is fine, restricted low bitrate files are not)
