I need a little [H]elp. The other night, my PS blew. So today I replaced it and while I was at it, I replaced the old ribbons with the Round IDE cables I've had sitting on the shelf waiting to be installed. Now when I boot my machine up, when it starts to detect my hardware after the bios is loaded, I hear 2 beeps, a pause, then 1 more beep ( beep beep ... beep). Then the message appears:
SEC. MASTER DRIVE - ATAPI INCOMPATIBLE

so I hit F1 to see what would load up in windows, expecting it to not read my DVD rom or my CD/RW drives. Low and behold, everything is recognized fine in "my computer". So I put in my BF1942 cd in the DVD rom (master on second IDE) and it loads up the start up screen. Then for kicks, I put the cd into my CD/RW (slave on 2nd channel) and it too fires right up. All my partitions are recognized and the drive work right. So what is the problem? Do you think it may be these round IDE cables I put in? I'm am not familiar with Bios's.... That's never been my thing. So any suggestions would be helpful.

This kind of bums me out for I was really happy with how well I hid and routed the wires. I never took the time to do that before.

Nevermind. I think I have everything figured out now. Still, it's kinda odd. No hardware changes were made. This was just a case of before my ps fried, and after with the new one. Perhaps it's the round IDE cables causing the confusion. The fix or "work around" that I did was to go into my BIOS and change the setting of my second master IDE controller from DVD to Auto. Now it boots up but pauses for several seconds longer than it use to at the point that the bios beeps use to appear. Weird, but it works now.
 
I order a power supply this weekend and newegg didnt ship it on monday as usually so they ship it with 2 day instead of the express delivery on tuesday so it still got here when it was supposed to how do you complain with that.

I was going to suggest the BIOS. But good job for finding out. May we have a toast for your increased knowledge.
