AMD64 Backplate Problems

Hey, any idea how I can get the stock AMD64 backplate off my MSI K8N?
I have removed the retention module (the plastic thing) but the backplate wont budge, when I pushed it, my board bent a wee bit so I stopped immediately?
 
use a hair dryer or heatgun to soften the adhesive a bit and then gently pry it off.
 
Is there a guide for this, Ive tryed it and it doesnt seem to help. Im not sure whether im not heating the PCB enough, or if the pryer im using isnt thin enough. The PCB is too hot to touch though, so I doubt it is that. Anyone else with experience with this problem post please.
 
Ive heard nail polish helps, but somehow I wouldn't want that around my computer....plus if I had any in my house I'd shoot myself since I live alone :eek: :D
 
Nail polish remover = acetone (but I would never use it, it has other chemicals to make it smell nice etc). I think it removes glue, but I cant get to the glue underneath my backplate.
 
I just used a hairdryer. Mine was very stubborn, too. Just heat it for a while, let it cool, then heat it up again and wear rubber gloves to pull it off, because it will be very warm/hot.
 
Goodness... dont "PRY" with ANYTHING.... You know how many layers of traces you can destroy in an instant if you gouge the MB just a bit????

Heat and TWIST(You wont be able totwist much since the pegs go though the board... But you cana bit...)... You can use a eyedropper and drop a few drops of 91% Isoropyl Alcohol along the edge... THat should help as well and doesnt leave any residue......
 
i had to get it off my friends asus board.. i just put a littel consistant pressure on the top lug and let the board bend a littel.. was it the best.. probably not.. did it come off cleanly with no left over residue... yup... the boards beveale it of not are desgined to bend a littel.. (not more than a inch form any edge to center (i think its even less than that just your own judgment ) but constant pressure it will start to slowly lift off untill you can get your gruby littel fingers behind it and onctinue prying from there, once you get your finger behind it you can counter bend the board so your not putting so much pressuer on it...

well.. this is what i did any way, im shure someone will try and tell you i screwed his board up(and im not gonna garentee that you wont screw yours up, sometimes you look at em wrong and there bOrked) but i can assuer you that i didnt as he is perfectly happy with it and it is very stable,

(btw, useing a heat gun on a pcb has just as much chance of breaking a tace by over heating, as bending the board, you hold it in one place to long and you can acctually desolder with it or for that matter melt the coating that procects the traces.. )
