AMD53 2800+ OC?

how much of an OC do you think i could get out of a Clawhammer 2800+64?

currently running at 1800(stock)

9x200 multiplier.

now, i dont know all that much about OCing, and im just curious as to how much this can put out. I buildt my own computer from scratch, and learn fast, but before i start dabbling with OCing, I was just curious if I could get anything more out of the CPU before I start messing with it.

My motherboard is a MSI k8t NEO-2FIS2R if that helps.

I got 2.2ghz stable (9x244) out of mine with 1.55v or so on a lame Soltek board. C0 stepping.

also, how old is the 2800+? the newer ones have a tendancy to be pretty :cool:
 
the processor is ~the one year mark, or a tad under. I know for a fact that it has not been over one full year. The thing is, i tried the cool and quiet on my board, and then the OC settings for the board and it didnt seem that any of those were stable, even the "private" setting, which i think is a 1%,or 2% OC. so, i just dontk now, any other suggestions? i read your post about how to OC 64's, and it just got me thinking. but as far as the whole OC world goes, im kinda nub.

like i said before, its a Clawhammer core,if that makes any difference.
 
meh, stay away from the auto oc stuff... it's lame, and usually doesn't work right :(
 
apparently, the computer would just start giving me error screens,and randomly reboot, and just from then on i would stay away from OC, just cuz i didnt want to mess with it. so, i need a nubish sure fire way that i wont screw anything up, cuz the OC thing to me, is new, but i can build the computers :confused:
 
do lots and lots of research, and small amounts of fiddling in the bios. as you learn things, increase how much you fiddle with. imo, that is the best way to learn ;)
 
that seems to be a prob with me, is i for somereason cant stand to try to learn stuff before i jump into it, just dont have the patience(sp?). i heard from somewhere that there are programs that can just do it all for me? do any of these exist? stay away from them? go towards them? its all to much for me, but im just tired of the performance im getting outta this CPU andcant afford to just purchase another one, when i could OC this, and get more out of this.

as for fiddling, i have a bit, just not recently.
 
so basically, just read up on it and trial and error?, what would be a good starting OC such as ...i dont know like 9x220? if that max that the other person got was 9x244, then i would assume that i would be able to at least get 9x220?

idk, any helpful insight.
 
yeah, trial and error is the best way to go, except for when it comes to voltages, cause it can actually do damage if you're careless
 
If you take the time to read the link you posted, it should explain the very basics of how overclocking works pretty well. Basically you want to increase the HTT* (or cpu fsb) or the multiplier to overclock the CPU, however make sure that both the memory** and the HTT link*** stay where you want them. Use a program like Prime95 (small fft torture test setting) to test stability, if it fails after 10min or less, increase the cpu voltage (usually start with .025 increase over stock) and try again. When you have reached your "final setting" be sure to run prime95 for 6+ hours to ensure stability, as anything less means you need less frequency/more voltage for 24/7 peace of mind. If it ain't stable under a long amount of prime95, then it ain't stable imo.

I'm pretty sure your CPU can use higher multipliers (higher than stock) which would be the easiest method. Also be sure not to increase the vcore unless you need to, as it will increase temperatures, and don't take the vcore past 1.7 or what your temps will permit, I wouldn't raise the vcore if the CPU is already 55-60C under load. As long as you don't let the CPU run at 70C or run 1.9 volts through it, it won't fry. Even if you set the CPU to overclock to 5ghz, the worst you will have to do is reset the cmos!
Here are some examples, read and you will know!

*CPU: (ie 9x200=1800, 10x200=2000, 9x220=1980 9x=multi 200=HTT/cpu fsb)

**Memory (1/1 divider at 200HTT = 200mhz, 1/2 divider at 300 HTT= 150mhz)

***HTT link (5x htt multi X 200HTT= default 1000mhz HTT, 5x300HTT= 1500 which is too high, 3x300HTT= 900 which is fine)
HTT link should stay right around 1000, lower isn't a big deal, higher will hurt stability but HTT link has extremely limited influence on performance

Also note that RAM timings can affect performance/stability as well, and they get complicated compared to simple CPU OC'ing, but once you learn it is easy. This guide should help: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11397
Just ignore the settings your mobo doesn't have. The main one's to look at are the ones that greatly affect stability AND performance (they are even labeled for you at the bottom of each setting).
