Kind of an odd question I guess, but I know nothing about either one, so here goes.
Which one would be better at games like the Sims2 on comparible machines?
Intel Celeron D 335 Prescott 2.8
AMD Athlon xp 1800+
Like I said, I know nothing about either one, & it's not for me. Personally I wouldn't have either.

I upgraded my nephew's desktop several months ago from a Duron @ 1.8GHz to a Celeron D @ 3GHz. The Duron @ 1.8GHz should at least be as fast as an Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53GHz) and the Celeron D was a significant upgrade from the Duron even with only single channel memory.

The Celeron D 2.8GHz should be noticeably faster than the Athlon XP 1800+ if you're not overclocking either. I think The Sims 2 would play fine on either one though. I would go with the cheaper of the two and apply the savings towards a better video card if that's an option.

edit: if you want to look through a bunch of charts: http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/12/21/the_mother_of_all_cpu_charts_part_2/page14.html#opengl The Celeron D 2.8GHz pounds the Athlon XP 1800+ in that link.

edit2: n/m

Celeron D

My Celeron D 2.4 is running at 3.8 at near stock voltage and with a Zalman 7700CU at the slowest speed. If you can, try to get an E0 stepping.
