Question..

On a single task, how's the performance of the AMD XP3200+ compared with the Duo 2 Core EC6300 on something like video encoding and photoshop?

I am still debating whether or not I should upgrade my system now or wait until next year when quad core get release.

-- Thx

Around 3x faster I think.

Video encoding shines on dual core, and PS is multithreaded as well I think (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Even on non multithreaded apps an E6300 would be around 1.5x as fast as an XP 3200+.

The problem with waiting is that once the 4 core processors come out the next big thing will be on the way.

XP 3200 to E6300 is a pretty big jump.

Hmm 3x faster is a great thing. I might go out to Fry's this coming weekend to see if they have any special going on.

I got the E6400/Gigabyte DS3 board for $399 (OC'd to 3ghz easy with my cheap ram). It was not a great deal, but I didn't have to wait for shipping :)

They had the E6300 and a cheap board for $199 on sale a week or so ago.

yeah that would be a very noticeable step up. Nothing wrong with the XP's, but conroe is an entirely different league. conroe would absolutely demolish an XP in pretty much anything. plus, video encoding is one of the XP's specific weaknesses while it is one of conroe's particular strengths. Pure ownage.

my bro got an asrock 775dual with a e6400 and it beats my 3200xp to death , is like comparing a nuke to a stick. 10 secs after seeing his running i ordered an e6600 :D lol his aquamark scores with an old 9600 pro jumped from 26k to 50k hammering my 3200 with an 9800pro at 45k

Look.....I just built a small system with an e6300 on a P5N-SLI (bad OC board) (but cheap) I got the 6300 up to 2.15GHz with ease.....it rivals my FX-57 in speed. No joke this little chip is fast, fast, fast. Just get one. You wont regret it.
I havent has an Intel for years, but I couldnt resist the hype.....for 180 dollars it was well worth it. :D

im going from an AXP 1800+ to an e6300...will my brain be able to handle it? :D

I went from a socket A at 2.2GHz to a e6300 at 2.8GHz. I notice improvements in almost everything.

heh, I love how the rig isn't even built yet and you're already telling people what overclock it's running at. No pre-hatched egg counting!

This sound like a nice deal. Sad it is not in LA

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 & MSI P965 Neo-F Motherboard

if you wanna wait till quad... you CAN... XP 3200 is still passable... and if its handling everything you want it to... well keep it until it doesnt!

I'd still be running my XP 2500 @ 2.5ghz if i didnt fry it (not though OCing...)

Oh but I have done extensive research on the matter LOL... Although I'm a first time builder I have lurked these forums for a long time and many articles on the subject to know enough by now . It's not like I'm hardware illiterate.. A ZALMAN CNPS9500 and a couple of extra case fans should take a 6300 to 2.8 easy.

lol... I have kept this old *** Dell Dimension 8200 running in top condition over the years, it was top of the line when I got it but it cost me WAY too much... I mean it has never broken down or anything lol it has done it’s job.. Pure quality from Dell, but we all know that building a system is the way too go. I was too young to be messing with a "custom" self build back when I got it. Now I have the confidence to build my own rig, and safe OC it.

I will come here to get some pointers when I finalize the hardware and start the build, I expect you bastards to help me :p

:D

with the ram prices currently being WAY out of whack, I'd wait until they come back down to earth.
