I'm running the Abit AN7 mobo w/ an athlon xp 3000+. Specs in sig.

I pushed the FSB up to 185mhz so that theoretically my processor can talk to my DDR ram @ 368mhz. Now that FSB push increases my processor upto 2396mhz because the processor is locked at a 13x multiplier. I would love to push this 3000+ to 200mhz. Would it be safer to unlock it and drop the multiplier to 12.5 or even 12 to get what I want than pushing it while it's still locked? If I can, I would like to unlock it tommorow morning and give the machine a good trial run at quakecon.

I just put this one together after my old Abit KD7-a fried this past weekend. My 2400+ has always been a bottleneck with this system but I could not push it too far because the KD7-a ran so hot.

Suggestions?

so is it safe to leave this thing running at 13x @ 200mhz? That means the chip is running at 2.6ghz....that sounds like i'm pushing it too far for air cooling...but i'm the noob here.

it may be able to do it with a bit of a voltage bump. what cooling do you have?

if i had to guess, it won't do 2.6ghz without some really nice cooling. however, it may be able to. try it!

do you know how to unlock a barton? it involves turning it into a mobile (at least so it thinks it is one) and then i think it is unlocked. not positive on the method, but it can be done.

good luck tho!

i do not know how to unlock it but i will learn if i need to. i'm going to bump the fsb up another 5 or 10mhz and she how she does.
