Just like the title says which do you recommend for gaming??? I see all these threads for problems with dual core and gaming....but they seem to be based mainly around BF2 and WOW, two games i despise. I play CS:S competitively but also anything that is new at LANs and stuff so I dont want to not be able to play single core based games??? Anyone have any advice?

They use the same core so there's no difference in gaming ability other than clock speed. The FX-60 is easier to overclock since it has an unlocked multiplier. Most X2's can hit stock FX-60 speeds if you OC them.

If you have the money and have to have the fastest stock chip, get the FX.

If you don't need the fastest possible, or are willing to overclock, get the X2.

what about an opty 170/175ish?? do some ocing and you save a load of cash

You can easily get an Opty 165 and overclock it to FX-60 & X2 4800 speeds for a fraction of the price...

Then if you want any others, refer to above. Mostly everything seems to be going dual core, dual video, quad, etc... but just for CS:S, I say just stick to single core.

Maybe in a few months when more AM2 chips come out and prices keep dropping, then you can migrate over to dual core.

Just my .02!

Thanks fellas...yeah this new build will at the very earliest be happening in a month so prices on AM2 will drop hopefully and we will see exactly what to do for vista and dx10. But I just wanted to get your opinions, thanks again.
