AMD x2 3800 overclocking advice

im new to messing around with my computer its become a recent hobby...andway ive ordered a water cooling kit for my computer....so hopfully cooling will not be to much of an issue...

so if anyone can give me some advice as to what exactly to change to overclock and whats the most efficient settings for overclocing it....?
 
Is this on a 939 setup or Am2? Mind giving me your motherboard brand? So i can give you direct bios options.

What kind of watercooling setup/kit you going with? Whats your ram? Power supply?

the processor is a AMD ATHlon(tm) 64 X2 DUal Core Processor 3800+, on the mother board box it says it supports an AM2 socket so im assuming thats the processor that in it...

motherboard: Gigabyte S- series GA-M61PM-S2 rev.2.0.

Water cooling set: i have ordered a NU Evercool CPU VGA PC Liquid Cooling System Kit WC-202

its a cheaper system but i dont need a $300 cooling system just something that will shut up my stupid cpu fan...

Ram: MEM 2G|CRUC CT25664AA667 R and theres a 1 gig stick in there but i have no idea of the brand

power supply:eek:rion model No:HP585D

is that enough to give you a general idea...?
 
Close enough, Did you build this rig yourself or is it prebuilt? Mind giving me more info on the ram? Also download Realtemp and tell me what the Vid is for your chip. Keep the program for Temp recording to see what temps your getting with the overclocks.

Ill start finding some bios shots and getting some bios inputs in for you to test.

As stated earlier, this board has absolutely no overclocking or even advanced CPU or memory settings anywhere in the BIOS. Even the included Gigabyte software, EasyTune5, which really made to help in windows overclocking is limited to hardware monitoring only. This board is just not meant for enthusiastists.

Is this true? When you go into the bios, is there overclocking options? :confused:
 
i personally didnt build it, but it is a home made system, my friend made it for me back when i was in highschool...ill get you the seriel code of the ram here in a minute

yeah i downloaded speed fan and thats when i figured out that my cpu cooler is pretty much just pissing in the wind cause its BASE temp with no load is around like 43-45 C...and i looked up some stats and found th at it fails at like 65 so hence the water cooler...
 
there is a small amount of overclocking ability in the bios...i cant change much though...
 
Mind remembering/writing down some of the options available?

Also update your bios to see if more overclocking options are allowed.

thats the memory you have.. and right now ill tell ya.. that will be your biggest limiting factor on your overclock.. id say invest in some higher end ddr2 800 2x1gb sticks.. it will give you more headroom on the overclocking..

well im not trying to make a rocket ship out of my computer just bost it a little....nvidea has a little option where you can just inrease the clock speed i slowly worked up 2 2.2 ghz and my computer crashed several times in a row...even after i made sure everything was back to the way it was before <_<...>_>...but it seems to be doing ok now...

lol the powe supply seems to work fine for all its ineficiecies...next time i reboot ill write down the bios options...
 
You can probably safely get the processor up to 2.5ghz, thats what i got my 939 3800x2 up too, alhtough i had to run at a vid of roughly 1.56v

When increasing the speed of the processor, make sure you drop the multipler of the HT down to 4x, gives you a lot more headroom
 
My old S939 X2 3800+ got up to about 2.5ghz. I had to give it lots of volts, though. Kept overheating due to me using the stock heatsink. I sold the system to my boss and now I use it as an office computer and it runs just fine at 2.4ghz (1.5v, 240x10).

I was always convinced that if I had better cooler and faster RAM, I'd have been able to hit 2.6ghz.

Nowadays, I'm running 4 cores at 3.4ghz. I defected to Intel. So it goes.
