AMD with SLI, why is there no selection?

My older AMD 5000+BE and 8800gt are kind of outdated and i need to upgrade. Besides, i bought the very first asus M3A and it is a POS!

I want to stay with AMD because cost is a factor, but i cannot seem to find any mobos that are AMD and support SLI. Why is that? Or am I not looking in the right place.

I figured i could pick up another 8800gt for a real cheap price, run SLI, upgrade my processor and it could last a little while longer. and possibly get a used older sli compatible mobo, such as a asus m2n-sli

Any help deciding or input would be greatly appreciated.

There is a hack floating around that will allow SLI on non-Nvidia motherboards. That way you don't have to settle for a sub-par chipset.

blame nvidia for thinking they are better then everyone else and dropped support on the AMD platform. also probably because AMD wasnt willing to deal with their shit that intel will bend over backwards to deal with.

the current hack that allows SLI on amd chipsets limits it to 8x/4x i think. cant remember exactly though, been a while since i looked into it.

like unknown one posted asus and msi are the only ones that currently support their customers by offering nvidia chipset based boards. down fall is the 980a is a rebranded 780a which is now almost 2 years old.

i dont suggest getting the m2n-sli board(as you can see i have one) some people like them but i absolutely hate it. but i cant afford to drop another 100+ dollars on a new board after i killed my biostar tforce 780g board. loved that board :(

what about Hyda.... the MSI bigbang will allow SLI or Xfire or a combo... not sure if there is a AM3 Hydra board...

Another 8800 when you're looking at buying a motherboard and cpu?

I think you might want to reconsider where you're going with this.

Seems like an awful roundabout way to spend a considerable deal of money and effort to get a phenom system with 2 8800's and possibly having to do a hack to get SLI working.

Either hold off, save what you can, and spend a little more on a superior system, or if you must upgrade now then consider buying a single ATI or NVIDIA card that will beat 8800 SLI and you wont have to play these silly motherboard games.

Yes, but Hydra has much worse driver support and much lower performance scaling than SLI or CF. Plus Hydra chipset boards are like $200. $200 for a hydra board and $50-60 for another 8800 and get 1.5x the performance, or $75 for a basic AM3 board, sell the 8800 for $50, and buy a 460GTX for $160 and get 3x the performance?
