AMD Vs. NVIDIA Cards

3gb on GTX 580 is a waste for all but multi-monitor surround resolutions. The GPU will be obsolete before the memory bandwidth would be a gaming limitation at 1920x1200 or 2560x1600... so stick with 1.5gb's and save your money. No choice you make will be future proof.
 
EVGA has the best warranty. ASUS seems to have the best performing (stock) cards. At reference speeds / reference coolers, there is very little to differentiate the manufacturers besides price and warranty.
 
Which ones are best for overclocking?

Also, Im confused now, I went back and read the previous page, and, some say dual GTX580s are overkill for 1920x1200, and went on to say dual GTX570s are more suited for that res. Now I'm hearing dual GTX580s are better than even triple GTX570s in making a game run smooth even at my res.

One contradicts the other there.

Dual GTX580s Vs. Dual GTX570s, same system, same games, how much more FPS will I get at 1920x1200?
 
the matrix has 2 fans and seems to have better cooling than the evga, does that mean better overclocking?

If you're looking for non-ref coolers, the MSI TFII or TFIII, Asus DCII like the matrix, or some of the gigabyte cards have the Arctic Accelero on them are also good. The MSI lightning cards and Asus Matrix are the top overclockers on air.

Whats the difference between the matrix and this one though?

They seem to have the same DirectCU II cooling. Just the price difference is a lot.

That card is a regular gtx 580 with the direct cu 2 cooler, the matrix has millitary grade components, custom bios, on board fan control and voltage control + and -. It also has a custom power phase system to allow much more stable voltage and overclocking. Basically it's built and engineered from the ground up for overclocking. Same as the msi lightning.

Matrix is made specifically for overclocking. It has stronger VRM's and cherry picked GPU's(ont he platinum version) for the best OC, also memory chips that can tolerate more voltage and higher clock speeds. It also has things on the PCB like voltage monitor points, voltage adjustment buttons that work straight through the hardware, and a 100% fan speed button (very handy).

Between that and the lightning the lightning has a slightly stronger VRM setup than the matrix but may not be as capable voltage-wise because you have to rely on software/BIOS mods.

As to which is better? Personal preference. Unless you're looking for and LN2 card then either will do fine at 900+mhz, although the Lightning does have a 3GB version.

Mostly, yes. I believe it also helps with 3Dvision. I do fine at 19x12 with 1.5GB, did fine with 570's and 1.2GB before that. You will only really see Vram limitations if your system is older and can't offload some of the textures to main RAM as fast.

How many people on this forum even have a 6970 Tri-CF setup? Probably very few if any.

I actually have a 6970 Tri-CF setup and I can tell you it is ridiculously powerful and very reliable! And the newest Catalyst drivers are great!

6970 Tri-CF is about the same performance level as 580 Tri-SLI; however 6970 Tri-CF costs significantly less and that makes it a much better value.

IMO, it's foolish to spend the extra money on 580 Tri-SLI.
 
Literally all of your posts on this forum are about how great AMD cards are. Every single one. Maybe you're not a troll, but you're really obnoxious.
