I put together 2 pcs, for semi high performance for my brother. The only problem is I wanted to get him a 24" Monitor along with the PC for 900

Any suggestions on what to drop and get on either of these setups to get down to 699 shipped so i can spend 200 dollars to get a 24" lcd?
I want it to last a long time, which is why I went with quad core procs.

Heres the Intel System

a 955 will do better then a LGA 1156 unless its overclocked really high. the X4's are pretty sweet and can overclock themselves very well.

for a 30$ differenace its totaly up to you.

basically you can get a top of the line AMD quad core or a middle of the road intel.

An Intel Core i5-750 Quad build + 24" monitor both for $900? Not doable. You will have to go AMD Quad build. I would say an AMD Phenom II X4 925 cpu + Radeon HD 5770 video card + ASUS 23.6 - 24" lcd display for $900 is doable.

Hmmm... Sonata, interesting... Is the PSU in it very good? that would take off 80 bucks right there.

Yep, good one made by delta.

If you decide to order and the deal expires, you can get it for the same price at amazon.

Nice gwarren, thats a huge help, I got it down to 735 shipped with the i5-750 or 709 with the Phenom II 955.
I was hoping to go intel, but im just not sure about the motherborad on that combo i picked out, and its the cheapest good thing available

$900 budget with monitor. If you can spend $15 more you can get the Phenom X4 955 + XFX Radeon HD 5770 that gwarren listed for $305 Also, for $10 more you can get a 500GB HDD. So, if you got the Phenom X4 955/XFX Radeon HD 5770 combo plus 500GB drive, it will increase the total cost by $25 more.

A little different twist aimed at a gaming machine. Go with a dual core CPU instead and use the extra cash to get a beefier GPU. A 5830 would push a 24" monitor a whole lot better than a 5770.

Phenom II X2 555 - $101 shipped.
Powercolor 5830 - $248 shipped.
Corsair 650 watt PSU - $90 shipped (after $20 MIR)
Gigabyte motherboard - $97 shipped.
Corsair sx2 GB DDR2 RAM - $88 shipped.
Western Digital 500 GB hard drive - $56 shipped.
Sony DVD burner - $24 shipped.
Antec 300 case - $70 shipped.

So thats $774 shipped. While it might not have quad core power, that CPU can easily overclock to 3.8 GHz with stock cooler alongside a 5830 and it will flat out scream on a 24" monitor. If youre dead set on having a quad core, check out the Athlon II X4 630 for $8 more. You can easily overclock this up to 3.2 and youll still be able to scream on games and still be a capable multitasker.

Best thing about this set up is it is using top notch gear. Corsair memory and especially power supply are as good as you get. Gigabyte seems to make the most bulletproof motherboards and the Antec 300 is a very nice, solid case.

I dont plan on overclocking his. I'm fine with oc'ing my system, but im gonna leave his all stock, so i'm not sure about that. I thinkt he 5770 would be fine for his needs.
Thanks for helpoing though :)
I will check to see if hed be interested in the 5830, but i dont think so.

Ah, didnt even think about the integraded graphics... I could care less about that. I think i'll go with the cheaper board.

Oops, I'm sorry about that. It's a 790X motherboard. This one does not have integrated graphics.

You've got about a 70% chance at unlocking the extra cores on a Phenom II x2 550 BE or 555 BE, if you'd like to go that route (you'll need a board with SB710 or SB750).
