AMD to Showcase Latest Technology During Computex 2016


AMD today announced it will hold a press conference and live webcast during Computex 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan. The event will begin on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM CST / 10:00 PM EDT. The event will feature launch of 7th Generation AMD A-Series Processors, Polaris updates and more.

The event is slated to feature presentations from AMD executives including AMD President and CEO Lisa Su; Senior Vice President and General Manager, Computing and Graphics Business Group, Jim Anderson; and Senior Vice President and Chief Architect, Radeon Technologies Group, Raja Koduri.

A real-time video webcast of the event will be accessible on AMD's Computex page (www.amd.com/computex) and on AMD's Investor Relations home page (ir.amd.com). A replay of the webcast can be accessed a few hours after the conclusion of the live event on both pages and will be available there for one year after the event.

Ding ding ding! AMD is confirming right here that they are launching a specific product (not Polaris, and unknown now if it's their typical paper launch, or a hard launch), and only providing more details on Polaris. This can range anywhere from an announcement (like Nvidia's event earlier this month to announce the launch date), to another Q&A with non-answers like yesterday.

I'm going to lower my expectations to reduce my disappointment. I really want AMD to release a great product. But right now, it's getting harder and harder for me to remain optimistic.
 
Release of Polaris has been scheduled for 2H of the year, before the start of the back-to-school season, for months now.

Although it's supposed to be more than just an update.. very intriguing. They may just drop the launch bomb and are saying 'update' to keep nvidia in the dark as long as possible. It's worked pretty well so far and fits with their PR efforts so far. They are using lack of info to hype it instead of major over-promising again like furyx/nvidia and under delivering.
 
I sorta understand the FE cards a bit more. Retail available boards for a bit more, then ramp supply and stock up for AIB boards and Oem supply around the time of Polaris.

Except that's not what's happening based on what Kyle has written. FE and AIB cards will be available together from day one. Kyle did a great writeup on what the FE cards are and why they exist.
