BusinessWeek says that AMD’s stock prices have fallen 10 percent after the company issued a profit warning this morning.

AMD warned late Thursday that operating income for the quarter -- excluding business units and charges related to newly acquired graphics chipmaker ATI Technologies Inc. -- is expected to be "positive but substantially lower" than in the third quarter.

The repercussion of Intel's C2D (mostly). It was to be expected but nothing to worry about history repeats itself. Intel took a beating in the last 3 years while AMD munched some market shares in all sectors (portable, desktop and server) from Intel.

Now the situation is reverse and the question is: how long can Intel hold its position? It's looking good though.

AMD will rebound but how high? Will its next offering be enough to regain control? It looks promising and I know many analyst hope this is true. There little doubt that AMD did not learn from Intel's mistake. You can not stop innovating just because you are on top. It is true in the war between ATi and nVidia and it is true for AMD and Intel.

It seems more likely that this is the result of the acquisition of ATi and infrastructure development. Certainly Intel has better silicon right now, but AMD has done nothing but increase sales volume in the last year. It almost seems that AMD has gone a bit slap happy with their new-found wealth and are spending it faster than it can come in.

In the interests of disclosure, I dumped all my AMD back when it was still $29 right after the ATi buyout talk started. I'll wait to see where it bottoms out before looking at getting back in.

In the interest of disclosure, or dis-gloating? :p Just kidding, I'm a securities attorney so I deal with disclosures all the time heh, found it funny.

Note, no need to disclose unless you are giving investment advice, in the media, or advertising ;)
