AMD has put together what they call a "cheat-sheet blog" dedicated to the company’s server processors / platforms. The blog basically explains stuff like the difference between G34 and Magny-Cours, Lisbon and Suzuka and so on. Definitely good info to have.

I am constantly asked about our different products, both existing and future. Clarification of what the AMD Opteron TM processor products are and where they are targeted is a common request, so I thought it might be a good idea to put it all down in one place; a “cheat sheet” for the IT professional.

yes, this is very welcome - IIRC, TechReport at one time had an X86 processor decoder-ring (err, web page) back during the P4 days when it was also very confusing - and things have just gotten harder to keep track of (desktop & server I am staying on top of, but laptops I have lost track of to a large extent).

I'm really curious to know how many readers of hardocp use AMD processors in their production servers...

Nothing wrong with Opterons at all. Two of 7 servers in my office runs on Opterons and they're just as fast as their Intel Xeon counterparts.

Never thought that they were bad, I was just wondering if anyone had any hands on time with 'em. Everything in our racks are all intel -

It runs just like Intels do. I don't think of them as Intel and AMD servers. I think of them as whatever their roles are.

"The Sharepoint server." "The SQL server", "The Citrix server"..

Opteron's been pretty good to me as a Sharepoint and terminal server.

You make it sound like they're not compatible and won't run the same things that the Intel CPUs do. It executes commands just like Intel.
