Hi everyone:
I'm from a small town in Argentina and have a problem with a processor.
I own a cybercafe and have an Asrock N68-VS3 UCC, 2 GB DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 7025 integrated, with an AMD Sempron 140 2.7 Ghz. I need to have installed Counter Strike 1.6 and CS 1.5, and lots of other games as well, but this two are priority. The games run slowly with lag (all of them), but their are not played on Internet (we don't have enough connectivity for that, only LAN).
On another PC I have the same processor but a different MB and RAM (ASUS M2N-VM HDMI, 1 GB DDR2, NVIDIA GeForce 7050 integrated), the performance is almost identical (gets a little better with this last one).
The rest of the PCs are ASUS M2N-VM HDMI, 1 GB DDR2, NVIDIA GeForce 7050, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, on this other machines I have absolutely no problem.
I think the processor is the culprit. I know there's a hidden core on AMD Sempron 140 to easely unhide with the Asrock N68-VS3 UCC, but don't want to do that, I MUST be able to play CS 1.5 and CS 1.6 with that configuration!
I thoutht Windows were the problem, but made a clean installation, update NVIDIA drivers, update to june 2010 Directx 9.0c, and the results: identicals.
My system: Windows XP Pro Colossus Edition (SP2 native, later I installed SP3), .NET version 4.
I bought the processors as PIB (Processor In a Box), they contained a mini CD, when I try to install it says that it's only for Windows 7.
Any clue about this one folks?

Are you interested in overclocking the current processor? I know you said you weren't interested in trying to unlock the extra core, but a simple overclock might get you where you need to be.

Also, I would encourage you try unlocking the extra core. I was able to unlock on my son's computer and it made a world of difference. Was able to overclock both to 3.0 ghz on stock cooling too.

Either way, good luck!

Thanks for your respond Smoove910:
I think that no matter how many cores I unlock, performance isn't going to get better. This processor HAVE to run CS by its own, there must be something I've done wrong during installation, maybe is related to that mini CD.
Hope someone can help me.

um.. unless you can find an athlon II x2 250 or something along those lines your pretty much screwed as far as performance goes unless you unlock the second core on that specific processor. you could try overclocking the processor.. sempron 140 @ 3-3.2Ghz should be more then enough for CS 1.5/1.6.

the IGP doesn't help either. if you are able to say find second hand 8800GT's 8800GS's or 9600 GSO(the 384mb versions not the 512mb versions which are gimped) or even a 9800GT. thats really your only hope of fixing the lag.

ignore the CD that comes with the processors, theres nothing on it that would benefit you unless you are using windows XP pre SP2.. before SP2 you needed to install the AMD dual core optimization drivers, after SP2 they added it to windows xp.

it looks like its a custom version of windows xp only in Argentina, did some googling and just come up with a bunch of .AR sites.

I think that no matter how many cores I unlock, performance isn't going to get better.

You can help yourself by getting this thought out of your head. It's completely false. If you have a single core processor, and you unlock it to a dual core... Guess what? You just doubled your processing power. Try unlocking your processor for the sole purpose of proving yourself wrong.

Cheers!

Thanks guys, about that IGP sirmonkey1985, maybe you are not used to low budget systems but, trust me on this one: NVIDIA GeForce 7050 can play flowlesly Counter Strike, it is doing it with a different CPU. I suppose I need to try unhide the other core, but CS can be played on a Pentium 3!!! come on man, shouldn't be more than enough AMD Sempron 140? That's what I can't understand on my system.
About XP Colossus Edition, yes it is a custom latinamerican unattended version of XP.
I'll try unlocking the core and let you know.

It almost sounds like two possible problems.

1.) You might have stuff running in the background while you are trying to play. (i.e. virus protection, disk scan, windows update, system restore, etc)
2.) You might be trying to play at a higher resolution than your 'Pentium 3' example.

You can CTRL ALT DEL and start your 'Task Manager' then click on 'processes'. What is taking up your processor bandwidth? You can also click on 'applications' to see if there is something running that shouldn't be.

The processor should be able to run CS fine but keep in mind the x2 4200+ is almost twice as powerful as the Sempron 140. The video chipsets appear to be identical with the exception that the 7050 supports PureVideo for media playback.

It may be the CPU or it could be something in the BIOS, maybe the gpu doesn't have enough memory allocated to it.

He can't unlock the cores with those boards, so it is a bad suggestion to say, "hey unlock the cores!". Both those boards have Nvidia integrated solutions so no ACC, no unlock. Maybe some Overclocking ability but he won't be able to do any unlocking. I found that out with my first Sempron zotac mini-itx build a year ago.

Appears the Asrock N68-VS3 UCC CAN unlock. The 'UCC' portion of the nomenclature stands for 'Unlock CPU Core'. Should be a BIOS option in that board.

The Asus board is probably shit out of luck unless you can find a custom BIOS for it. Even then, you may not be able to have success.

swap procs and see if it fixes your problem. If it does then try to unlock the second core or buy better processors

My googling revealed torent/warez sites. My help ends here. I hate piracy.

if I'm wrong, please correct me.

you can download it off torrents but you can still use a legit key. but either way its a different country, different laws. thats just how i look at it.

Thanks for replying guys;
To ShitSolo1: IGP has allocated 256 MB on one system (new MoBo) and 128 MB on another (old Mobo);
To Ohmycaptain: sorry man but this problem is driving me crazy...
To Robstar: I can guarantee that NO ONE, NOT ANYONE, in the small town where I live has a legit copy of Windows, that's the way it's been sold to us...
Just wanted you to know that here majority of people doesn't have computer neither Internet, they access games and social networks through cybercafes like mine. We live on different worlds man, so I can understand if offends you piracy, the same way you will understand why we do it;
To all of you: I've found the culprit: I've switched the HDs of the PCs with the problem for the ones that run smooth, and the problem persist ONLY on the system with AMD Sempron 140.
So the solution MUST be on a BIOS setting right?

Option in Bios (Press delete when booting from shutdown or restart, to reach bios) should look similar to this photo I would think. (It's exactly how it appears on my Asrock) Just change from disabled to ENABLED then save changes/settings and exit. I do notice that is says Unlock X2, X3, X4 but nothing about X1 CPU's. I haven't tried a X1 CPU so can't say. Anyhow that's the option you need to try.

1st step
UCC Screen : Change from Disabled to Enabled (Use the enter/return key on keyboard, and up down arrows)
asrock_880g_bios_ucc.jpg

2nd step: Exit Tab
Save changes screen :press enter and yes

Hopefully you have a Dual Core Sempron by reboot if not you might have to look for a low priced AMD X2 or re-investigate the problem. Good luck bro ARGGGG. ;0

Sorry...I don't agree with & don't understand why you do it. I've reported this to the mods. If it's against rules I guess they'll take action. If not then good luck w/ your problem.

There are plenty of free alternatives with licenses that would be easier for you to follow. Yet you choose to pirate anyway. Anyhow, I'm out of this thread.

wow, what a dick move. Didn't know normal people were obligated to police the forums for the less fortunate. Hope you feel better about yourself. I don't necessarily promote piracy either, but to report someone for something that was mentioned secondarily outside of the original problem is just asinine.

If you don't agree with it, then agree to disagree. But don't go reporting people for things that are not even covered under the laws of the US. This is the same as letting someone go thirsty because they didn't pay a water bill.

....not a dick move, it's one of the rules that you agreed to when you registered:

As has been pointed out, there are legal, free, open source alternatives out there....pirating Windows isn't one of them. Discussion of same won't fly on these pages.
