AMD Ryzen CPU models leaked

I wonder if the X variants will have bundled water or special coolers. Have to wonder what makes them more overclocky:) if all other models are already unlocked.

Could also be binned chips that overclock well. Which would be great news for those purchasing that pricier CPU, but could also indicate the lower tier versions won't overclock well. Double-edged sword.

I wouldn't call that competitive. I really, really wanted AMD to have good floating point power and no glaring weaknesses, but here we go....

No they couldn't. They throttle like mad and their power draw is way too high.

We have to see what Zen delivers there with Raven Ridge later.

Intel and Nvidia; the companies that use strongarm tactics in the marketplace to artificially gimp the competitors products

TWIMTFA.

I know you have a chip on your shoulder against AMD and jump at opportunities to counter any posts that try to paint AMD in a better light. What I don't know is if you are one of those people who gets legitimate satisfaction from trolling by exaggerating the truth or twisting it just enough to try and turn it around on the others, or if you really are a hard headed Intel fanatic who really is so enamored by them that you're incapable of seeing the truth. *shrug*

Fact of the matter is, I've had no problems with throttling on my system. I just ran the AIDA64 "System Stability Test" and it loaded everything up... The FX-9800P is a 2.7GHz part and you know what the average clock was over the 11minute run? 2.67GHz, and only because it would drop down to 2.24GHz for a second every so often, just enough to bring the average off the 2.695GHz it runs at. When doing general system things (browsing or photoshop) it's typically at 3GHz to 3.15GHz. When I'm running FoldIt it's typically running at that speed as well given the program being all CPU, but more on the 3GHz end. As far as the one instance I made a thread about I had already shown that it isn't throttling in that way. It's a GPU-only load, no CPU being used at all, so there isn't a sacrifice occurring like a true throttling case. It's actually intelligently putting its limited power allotment to good use. Instead of letting some go to waste, burning it on letting the CPU run at >1.4GHz needlessly, it cuts that speed in half and allows the GPU to consume the entire TDP.

Eitherway, I did say "in the middle spectrum, AMD is still able to be competitive". Mid-spectrum being the midranged products, like my ENVY X360 is, at ~$600. In other words, the Core i5 territory, which the Intel-counterpart ENVY X360 only offers the "u" variants, and both the i5 and two i7 choices are all 2 core HT parts at lower clocks.

To each their own, I guess. I just know that the AMD parts aren't as bad as people like you seem to think they are, and in most cases it isn't even AMD's fault but the manufacturer's for pulling crap like only putting one DIMM slot. Makes me think that they don't bother to use the systems they create. lol "In theory this will perform fine, based on all the whitepaper specifications and max throughput numbers."

(EDIT: I misspelled "one" next to DIMM slot. GG me. lol Just figured I'd be completely open about the edit :p)

My guess is the non-X chips are indeed unlocked, but their power draw is capped. Something akin to this latest generation of GPU's.

Current speculation is that the X models might have the XFR (eXtended Frequency Range) feature in them.

https://www.techpowerup.com/230551/...n-upcoming-ryzen-chips-related-to-xfr-feature
According to AMD all Ryzen chips have XFR. Ther premise of only select chips having XFR is total b.s. When are you guys going to pay attention to what AMD says and not what undisciplined minds want to speculate about. I don't believe in counting angels on the head of a pin.

Go back and look at the slide that talked about the SenseMI technology and look at the lower right corner at the "fine print:"

Now where/when did AMD say all Ryzen chips would have XFR?

So hows your application performance and battery life? But seriously, there are a lot better intel options than AMD in laptops. Most AMD laptops are stuck at 1366*768.

Sorry I cant word it properly, I give up.

You just uhhh, proved his argument in a way. Despite superior IGP, AMD chips tend to get stuck in low res, low quality, low performance configurations that either hamstring or handicap the ability of the chips to perform to their fullest.

What sort of performance and/or applications are you interested in? All I know is this thing does everything I want it to and I've not had any problems with programs running poorly or abnormally.

But Magic Hate Ball is right about the last part, as it's exactly my point, and the very reason I never bought a laptop or tablet between 2009 and June 2016... Anything AMD powered was gimped by being given a crap screen with a low resolution, when there was shit like Atom powered tablets and Pentium (Core i based) laptops with 1080 screens. And when AMD systems did get a 1080 screen, it was in a model similarly as uninteresting like the quad core Bobcat/Puma powered laptops. That or it came with a dedicated graphics card as well and drive the price up beyond $800 :\ That's why I was not only happy that this ENVY came with a 1080p screen, but a touchscreen on top of that. And you know what was an extremely pleasant, unexpected surprise? IT HAS A FREESYNC SCREEN! Why they didn't bother to market that fact, I seriously have no idea... It isn't mentioned anywhere that I've seen though! It may only be 40hz-60hz but I am definitely not complaining! lol Granted, I'd much much rather have had a second DIMM slot, but I can say it does make up for HP decided not to populate the board with an m.2 connector. For whatever reason it's only available on the later-added A12-9700 chip based model, which lets you configure it with a 256GB SSD in addition to the 1TB HDD.

As for battery life, for a 3 cell integrated battery, it does better than I expected. I haven't really been able to test it properly since I'm usually within reach of an AC jack, but I'd say it'll get 4hrs or so. If you read the user reviews on the HP site on the Intel models, they get the same battery life. Which BTW, this screen is so nice and capable of crazy brightness that unless it's on the rare occasion where I'm outside with it, I run the brightness set to ZERO % and can use it just fine. Which will save even more battery life (turning off the keyboard backlighting helps, too).

In the end, I've never said that Intel doesn't have a superior chip, simply that AMD's products perform just as well as the similarly priced Intel-based laptops. It's simply that 9 times out of 10 you aren't going to find an equally CONFIGURED laptop, and that's what hurts AMD. :(

Shintai, mind telling us when that comes from? From what I've seen, most of the leaks are relating to the 8C, 16T parts, very little relating to Ryzen 5s and 3s. I feel the newest info is the stuff on Thermal specs, something I have not seen in my time of staring at Ryzen rumors.

Even the OP link got the 3 and 5 series.

Its "old news" as well. The most interesting part is that the X parts needs a 150W+ cooler to run within specs. Cant remember a Tcase below 60C before.

And apparently now we have the full rumored lineup plus pricing (though WCCFtech is extrapolating USD pricing from chinese prices they've found):

If a 6 core 12 thread CPU is really available fro $230... I may splurge a bit more instead of $200 for a 4/8 CPU. Then again, that 4/8 at $175 is mighty tempting. Seems that just like AMD kept pricing in check for Nvidia with the RX480, they may force Intel to do the same with CPUs... but let's wait on reviews before we get too excited.

whats the big deal aboot it shipping with a beefy cooler? Su did say it will perform better with better cooling.
heres a couple picks of the new HSFs. I yoinked them from the sentry thread. the hsf in the case looks like the one on the right. I'm thinking these are pretty accurate...

youre always asking for it so, source?!?! :)
idk what are you trying to point out, the price difference? is it from a different country? its not yen or yuan, oh its Taiwan. different countries do have different prices. wait till the poor aussie's get their pricing....

Same as the one for the wccftech. You didn't notice?

If prices are in TWD, how much is 4399 TWD in USD? 142? :)

nope didn't see that chart until you posted it. anyways, that's in Taiwan money not Chinese so there would be a difference. is the price difference what youre pointing out?

edit or are you saying they did the conversion wrong?

The price listed isn't TWD. If it is, its 100% fake. Because 1800X and 6850K would then be 140-150 USD. It however matches what RMB would be.

1700 priced against 7700K
1800 priced against 6800K
1800X priced against 6850K.

what currency symbol is that supposed to be? first google image result for Taiwan currency symbol shows that but wiki shows something else. regardless, that's speculations and we really just need to wait for real prices. I'm hoping that we wont get too shafted in CAN as our $ has come back up pretty good.
