8 cores vs 6. Yes the 5 series has a higher ipc, but for some people the pure brunt of the additional cores is needed for their workload. Basically if your workload favors more cores, the 3700x is a great alternative for basically the same price.

Mostly productivity performance and maybe couple games can use the extra cores/threads. Personally I don't like the thought of going from 8 to 6 cores though, so I'm waiting for better pricing on the 5800X (or better yet a 5700X with the same ~3% difference at ~20% less cost like between the 3700x/3800x) before I move to Zen 3.
