AMD Opteron 6282SE Folding Rig

Hello guys,

I've new to this forum and a good guy named Grandpa told me you could help me, here.

I'm folding for ROG ASUS for some months and I decided to get a server rig:

CPU: AMD Opteron 6282SE
MB: Supermicro H8QGL-iF+
RAM: 16GB Corsair 1333Mhz
PSU: OCZ 1250W Gold
GPU: nVidia GTS250
Case: Cooler Master HAF
Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212
BIOS: latest from Supermicro website

The rig is running for some month and after I set up everything as it says here, the rig is folding for weeks without crashing.

But these here are my problems:
1. I don't know how much PPD the Opteron should get, but with the WU 8101 it shows ca. 70k PPD. But I only get about 22k PPD every WU (every 2nd day).

2. When I reset the system, sometimes it doesn't boot but beep (short - - - - - - -...). Then I must completely unplug the rig and wait till all LEDs go off. After, I can normally start the rig.

3. It happens not so often but nevertheless, it does. The system freezes but my mouse is till there and when I'm trying to move it, it just jump very slowly from point to point. In this case it's so slow, that the folding doesn't go on.


I'm also new to Linux and server boards. Can anyone at least help me point out why I get so low PPD?

If you are only running one cpu, that's not too far off from the PPD. Are you running the default bios settings? Is this 64 bit linux and have you followed the desktop guide to setup?
 
Looks like really poor performance or missing passkey.

What is your 8101 TPF ? Can you paste a fragment of FAHlog.txt?
 
Am I reading the system specs correctly by seeing 1 CPU in a quad capable board?
 
Oh yes sorry, I've forgot to post some other info:

- Ubuntu Linux x64 (Desktop) (there is a Desktop installation guide?)
- Yes only one CPU on quad mobo (for now)
- TPF: 35 mins 13 secs
- I run the default BIOS, but with settings from this thread

So, in short, you aren't making the deadlines when folding bigadv because your rig isn't fast enough. In order to get the qrb bonus, you have to average 34m34s per average frame (and beat that by a bit to allow time for upload and begin/end shenanigans). Your FAH v7 dashboard has your estimated tpf at 35m13s, but looking at your logs, they seem to vary anywhere from 35m to 50m, which leads me to beleive that estimate is low. The 80k number you're seeing is the client calculating and showing you the qrb bonus anyway even though you won't have the wu returned in time (I don't think it takes into consideration whether you will meet the deadline or not.)

So, if you want to fold bigadv, it is time to get a second processor, otherwise, you'd be better off folding smp.

I'm not much help on the reboot side of things as I only reboot mine if they go sideways or i'm relocating them :).

Though, given the wide swings in TPF, you've probably got some stuff running in the background that is hogging CPU resources...
 
I think it's because of the Desktop edition of Linux, there are some progs running behind.
How I restart the rig? Just go to shut down button on Ubuntu and then restart.
