I'm building a computer for some 12 year olds and i've got them a graphics card and am gonna put a 2500+ or 2600+ barton in there, but i'm just trying to decide on a mobo...video doesn't matter due to the card, and audio quality doesn't matter as long as it does audio...

i haven't looked at mobos in awhile, so i'm out of the loop on the current chipsets...i wanna spend under 200 on the mobo/cpu combo and i'm looking at a A7N8X-X or the nforce2 gigabyte (but it's mATX) and any others...basically, what is the hierarchy for the via and nforce chipsets?

kt400, nforce2, kt800, nforce4?
or
kt400, kt800, nforce2, nforce4?

any info or links to a hierarchy would be appreciated

oh yeah, no overclocking, just stable fast computing...

To be honest, unless your doing specific tasks that require specific specifications, you'd be fine with either. It sounds like your just looking for a stable stock system, and thus any of the chipsets would do just fine.

You don't really want anything high end, i'd say the A7N8X would be a good choice.. they are others out there, Gigabyte GA-7VAX also.. both I have had experience (and good experience) with before as far as stability at sock is concerned.

Bottom line, you should be fine with any decent brand name board.

thanks...i figured that'd be the case and finally just went with the abit nf7 w/xp 2600+

Yeah, if you're not overclocking, anything Socket A would be good really.

Let me give you a tip, however, don't buy an Epox 8RDA3+; I have one and I hate it's guts.
