Im planning on getting this on...:

CPU: mobile 2500+
ram: 512mb ddr pc3200 ocz
mobo: MSI Nforce2 chipset 400 **IS THIS CPU COMPATIBLE WITH THE MOBO?**
v-card: undecided[maybe chainsaw g4 ti4200-8x]


Three questions:

1. Is it compatible with the mobo? Ive already purchased and have the mobo.

2. Can this mobile cpu be used in a desktop pc?

3. Whats the highest u can OC this cpu to with it being stable?
 
Okay, i'll bite.
Yes, that mobo will work with that CPU, virtually on NF2 boards can do mobiles.
Secondly, yes, the mobiles work on dekstops. There is no difference from the desktop chips apart from lower voltage, lower FSB and unlocked multiplier, all of which are why they make great OCers.
About how high an OC to expect, you should expect anything from 2.3Ghz (if you get a lemon) to 2.7Ghz (which is rare on non phase-change cooling), assuming you have OK cooling.
I'd say the average is about 2.5Ghz.

i'd get the dfi-ultra infinity or abit nf7-s revision 2.0, but maybe you have a personal preference?

what he said. my friend has a msi nforce2 mobo and it blows. msi imho has been pretty much crap until now...i have heard good things about their nforce3 250gb board the k8n neo platinum.

What are you talking about, the max OC? Or what it can run stable on air? It would take 1.8+ volts to do that.
 
I got Asus A7N8X-D (Nforce2)
With XP-M 2500+

Here is what I get :

The chip is far from maxed, just dont wanan push it yet, once my water setup is ready, 2800Mhz here I come :D

PS. I had to do the wire trick to unlock 14+ multi's. All you do is jam a small wire into the socket.
 
The best i got was 2.4 default milt on 1.75 voltage. and thats with two different mobos.
 
with pc3200 ram and that motherboard i wouldnt try to push 200fsb. so odds are the best ur gonna get stable is 2.4ghz, but its all depending on ur heatsink. i would shoot for one like the zalman 7000alcu.
 
I would like to dispute the fact that you can't get anymore than a 200 fsb out of a mobile. I was getting 225 to 230 out of a BARTON and that was before I got a waterchiller.... I know damn good and well you can get it out of a mobile .... the only thing u gotta do is turn ur multi down to 11 most people don't like that idea but high fsb's arn't a bad thing trust me 2500's scream at high fsb.... try it some time

it seems like you've been in a hole for the past couple of years because ocz redeemed themselves A LONG time ago. their ram is definitely among the best.

ocz reps are probably the best i've ever dealth with...they even frequent xtreme forums

on average the mobiles don't hit as high fsb as the normal bartons...but that's because people are too lazy to do the L12 mod
 
I was told the L12 mod only pertains to the Abit boards. How and why in the world does the FSB of any system depend on the CPU frequency? I figured if I had a 950 T-Bird I could run it at 250x4.5 for all it cared. I thought the only limits were the motherboard's FSB and the RAM speed.

Not all true...i have seen asus and epox boards do the L12 mod. but also they where nForce2 boards. i donno if VIA boards can do that mod at all...donno never tried it..i think i just might to....eheh
but as for HIGH ocing..the 2500m is a HIGH FSB chip even without the L12 mod. i have gotten 244 on my 2500m without the L12 mod. and now with the L12 mod i can get 248 but i run unstable at 10x250
 
The DFI people claim they never needed to use the L12 mod, that was my point of reference.
 
Sorry, i forgot to tell you guys.. I already have that mobo. and in place.

God i hope it works fine :(
